Scanning Slides To Digital Format

Featured Replies

Just searched but looks like this topic was discussed a few years ago, that said 5 will get you 10 that somewhere herein is the answer. Anyway, have a friend {yes really} who has mounted slides which he'd like to scan to digital format, possibly as contacts, review and then scan {better quality?} those he wishes to keep.

Thoughts, suggestions welcome.

TIA

If they are 35mm check Ebay for a Minolta Scan Dual II or III or Nikon slide scanner. One can be had for between one and two hundered dollars. Depending on the number of slides purchasing an extra slide holder can speed up the process. Nikon makes a bulk feeder but it is EXPENSIVE.

It seems to me that since most photographers have made the jump to digital that it would be best to find a business that has a very good scanner like the Nikon 4000 or 8000 and pay them to convert your slides. I would imagine it would be a fraction of the cost of buying a new scanner and further would imagine it would be a one time transaction.

My question is where could someone find such a service in Thailand ?

Thanks to all for the responses, and for politely pointing out the next page button :o May I second fm's request, given this specific situation a service might be the best option all round.

I too would advocate using a dedicated slide scanner.

I have a Canon FS2710.

It scans at 2700dpi and produces excellent results, scratches and all......

The s/w handles negatives, filtering and producing a correct colour image,

even with poorly exposed shots that the printing shops cannot handle.

Hey;

I had over 20 years of slides and made the transition to a digital Nikon last year and glad i did. The quility is still not as good when u figure that a slide gives you about 22 mb pixel and my nikon delivers 10 but its ok.

I used the NIkon Coolscan v and it works great as can scan slides in holders and those that are in strips.

This is a review of the IV

V scans at 4000 dpi cost ya about $600

Takes a of time.... i averaged over 5 minutes/slide.

You can also color correct and do all kinds of neat stuff.

Have fun :o
