Arab States Unite to Urge Hamas to Disarm and Relinquish Gaza

In a groundbreaking move, Arab and Muslim states, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, have united to call for Hamas to lay down its arms and relinquish control of the Gaza Strip. This unprecedented declaration emerged from a United Nations conference co-hosted by Saudi Arabia and France.

The initiative aims to address peaceful solutions to the ongoing conflict and promote a sovereign Palestinian state.

The 22-member Arab League, the EU, and 17 additional countries backed the declaration. The document asserts that governance and security across Palestinian territories should transition solely to the Palestinian Authority (PA), with appropriate international support, ending Hamas's rule in Gaza. It also proposes deploying a "temporary international stabilisation mission" under UN oversight to assist the transition, according to CNN.

France’s Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, highlighted the significance of this move, noting the conference marked the first instance of Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations condemning Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. The declaration reflects a broader desire for normalised relations with Israel and an ultimate two-state solution.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum praised the statement, emphasising the importance of condemning actions like kidnapping that breach international law. Although Qatar and Egypt have served as mediators while keeping relations with both Hamas and Israel, this recent development indicates a change in regional dynamics.

In March, Egypt proposed a plan for Gaza excluding Hamas from governance, supporting a temporary Palestinian committee to assume control until a handover to the PA. Saudi Arabia has consistently advocated for a revival of the two-state solution that France and the UK support, with France poised to recognise a Palestinian state by September unless a ceasefire occurs.

Despite these diplomatic efforts, Hamas has shown no interest in ceding power in Gaza, leaving uncertainties about the path forward. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains opposed to a two-state solution, citing security concerns.

This unified call to disarm Hamas marks a significant moment in Middle Eastern diplomacy, illustrating a rare consensus among Arab nations and international powers. The implications for the future of Israeli-Palestinian relations remain to be seen, as stakeholders continue to navigate this complex geopolitical landscape.

  • I agree. I guess some of the Arab world are tired of Hamas so it's a step in the right direction.

You are missing the point of the ethnic cleansing of Gaza.   Once that’s complete Gaza becomes part of Israel .

If the P.A commits to a peaceful existence and if the rest of the Arab World recognises Israel's right to exist and have normal diplomatic relations .

Once they have been shown to be serious about living  peaceful existence , then Israel will no longer ger have any security concerns

Seriously?  What do you figure is going to happen when the Israelis start building more illegal settlements?  Are the PA supposed to bend over and take it?  Netanyahu has made it pretty clear that there's no room for Palestinians in the future of Israel.

Yet those "brave" Arab countries won't even allow Palestinian women, children or babies into their countries.

Now if anyone would dare to suggest that they give up all their weapons and control of their countries, then you would hear the screams of protest.

So far only Jordan and the UAE have provided 1 aircraft each for food drops.

Those "rich" countries seem to have given no help at all.

Many of these “rich” states – especially post-Abraham Accords – are trying to deepen their ties with Israel and the U.S. for tech, weapons, and security cooperation. Public outrage in the Arab world is often not reflected by their governments, many of which are unelected and authoritarian. Qatar has given a lot.

Remember, Trump works for the Israel lobby.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told lawmakers during closed-door testimony before the the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee yesterday that Israel is “destroying more and more houses [in Gaza and Palestinians accordingly] have nowhere to return,” according to quotes from the session leaked to the media.

“The only obvious result will be Gazans choosing to emigrate outside of the Strip,” Netanyahu continued. “But our main problem is finding countries to take them in.”

Netanyahu told the lawmakers that he has discussed Donald Trump’s plan for the US to take over Gaza with the president in recent days but acknowledged that there have been difficulties in implementing it.

But Israeli Palestinians will still be allowed to stay living in Israel

That is what we are discussing ,

The genocide is a different topic

Indeed. In all the years I lived and worked in the Middle East (in Baghdad, Doha and Riyadh) I found very little sympathy/support  for the Palestinians.

Netanyahu holds together a coalition that is on the verge of disintegrating. He will be gone in less than 12 months. Israelis are fed up with the war in Gaza and want it over. They want the hostages released. netanyahu isn't able to deliver on this.

Nearly half of Israelis support army killing all Palestinians in Gaza, poll finds

An overwhelming number of Israelis, including seculars, back the forced transfer of Palestinians from Gaza and Israel

As your sole interest since your recent creation of an identity here, 2 weeks ago, has been to spread negative propaganda on Israel and to stir up hate, do you have anything recent, i.e not based on a "poll" from March that has already been exposed as misrepresented. You have used a reference from a site that did not present the actual poll question and answer. The actual question and answer from the poll is at https://13tv.co.il/item/news/politics/politics/polls-904590986/?pid=98577   and the actual question was;

Do you support or oppose the launch of Operation Gideon Chariots in which the fighting is expanding? 44% percent answered that they were Supporters, compared to 40%  Opponents. 16% percent answered I don't know.

Nor did you  present the more relevant poll question; Are you for or against a deal under which the war will end and all the abductees will be returned? 67% of those who answered the survey said they were Supporters  22% percent were Opponents and 11% answered I don't know.

And how about using normal font, next time? Your misinformation  does not become credible if you use large font.

Unfortunately over the decades, the Palestinians have burnt their bridges. The Jordanians lost a Prime Minister, Lebanon never recovered from allowing Palestinians to settle in their country and they have committed hundreds of terrorist activities dating back to Munich Olympics 50 years ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_political_violence

All this from their inability to adapt to the 1947 UN decision, which would have secured them so much of Palestine in a two nation state. At the same time, many millions of people around the world were being displaced in tough times, e.g. Chinese to Taiwan, Pakistani and Indians to create the new state of Pakistan, Jews from all over the Middle East, East Europeans dealing with the Soviet empire.

Could you imagine if the Moslems of the sub continent had the same mindset as the Palestinian Moslems? The Palestinians have lost every battle since, never losing an opportunity to lose an opportunity along the way. They voted for Hamas in Gaza and squandered millions in their goal of eliminating Israel, rather than build a new Mediterranean centre.

I hope the recent EU Arab declaration can be thrashed out and find a solution to all the suffering. Netanyahu has to go, not just Hamas.

There is a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel, but Palestinians have to get real, give the extremist mullahs the middle finger, accept the existence of Israel and do their best to create a better life for their children.

They might start by questioning whether they really do get all these virgins if martyred.

Genocide in Gaza is not a State project, it’s a national project, listen to this.

Many polls.

The more forward thinking Arab States are clearly more enlightened than the backward looking Islamic States of London, Bradford and Blackburn.

I read that the top brass of hamas live in luxury apartments in the same building in Qatar. Seems convenient for snipers.

Interesting.  Wonder why the ICC don't get them arrested and sent to Den Haag.

I am surprised that Trump did not already try to get credit for it!

Qatar, as several other countries such as the U.S. or Russia, has not signed the ICC treaty and doesn't recognise the ICC....:coffee1:
