Transfering Money From Uk To Thailand.

Hello,i have an asian freind here, who has contacted me,asking whether his freind in the uk (who i dont know),can put some money into my bank account in the uk,so i can then send money to him over here.

His freind in the uk says that this would be alot cheaper than sending it directly too a thai bank?

I'm obviously not to keen about this, but any ideas on the above,or options for said freind?(who has a refugee status)

Thanks for any help.

I would'nt give my bank details to a complete stranger hmmmmm although I suppose its a bit different if he is paying money into the account.

Do you not have any relatives over there that the guy can give the money to, if you want to help your mate out.

I am assuming that you are in Thailand.

If it is a large amount of money then you will lose 30% in tax unless you say it is for personal use to build a house. So be aware.

be happy....Larry

Yes these things have a habit of turning sour. But I assume he means the money goes in to your current account and you draw it out from an ATM in Thailand. Large sums excepted it is much cheaper and your friend is right, but note you need to go about 1.5bt lower (UK rate) lower than what the local exchange booth says and add back in the ATM charges (say 1.50 per hundred pounds UK )

apologies for the previous info then....I assumed when the poster said

""send the money to him over here"" that he meant by transfer not ATM.

I think caution is the name of the game here.

You could always use the TAX thing as excuse not to get involved.

Plus if you are UK Taxpayer, And it is a large Amount The UK taxman might want to know where the money came from

IF he decided to look at your finances.

Then you would have to explain to them.

Could be a can of worms.

I would Take Care but it's UP TO YOU

I'd rather do it by paypal, but i recon the chances of this asian guy in the uk having it are slim.

I'm a little paranoid about giving my account details to some stranger on the otherside of the world, due to indentity fraud etc, even though i've known this freind for along time now.

Just to clarify. The idea was that the guy pays money into my account in the uk,& then i withdraw the funds over here to give to freind.

I would be extremly cautous....tell him to use Western Union, he has to pay but then it doesnt involve others...make your excuses and stay well clear!!
