Q. Words For 'anaesthetic' & 'overland'

A Thai dictionary on CD gives anaesthetic as yah-salop ยาสลบ but dentists always use the expression yah-cha ยาชา / ยาช้า with me. How does one differentiate between general and local anaesthetic in Thai?

Other question: how does one say 'overland', meaning travel by road or rail as distinct from sea or air? I thought bok บก as in ta-harn bok ทหารบก was something to do with the land, but clearly it doesn't apply in an 'overland' sense. Thanks.

couple of quick thoughts

ยาสลบ

'pass out' medicine

general anaesthetic

ยาชา

'numbness' medicine

local anaesthetic

ทางบก

by land

เดินทาง ทางบก

to travel overland

perhaps there are more formal terms for the anaesthetics, but these are the commonly used ones, in my experience.

all the best.
