Exporting Clothes Back To Uk

Recommended Posts

Anyone know what the law is in terms of taking back clothes from thailand. Obviously most , if not all of the designer clothes produced out there are copies. What is the law when it comes to taking large amounts of these back to the UK? I was thinking of taking 100 or so t-shirts back with me next time i am out there, but dont fancy getting the lot taken from me by customs!

You probably wont have any problems with Thai customs (never had my bags opened yet when leaving) but if you have them opened at the other end with 100 shirts in you will lose them and probably get a warning.........you might get away with 20-30 shirts ........but its only a might! :o

Hi, i take tee shirts and watches back.

Got stopped at Heathrow last time, luckily i didnt have any ciggies, but when asked by the customs bloke what i did have, i said being honest i`ve got about 20 of these copy shirts, he asked how much did i pay and i said £1.50 each he also found 2 fake watches and i said they were £10 each.

He didnt seem botherd that they were copies just as long as what i was importing wasnt worth more than £140.

Why dont you send em home in the post?

I use E.M.S

Regards. :o

Good idea to post them but still a risk that the package might be opened by Customs at the mail sorting depot in the UK. In order to spread the risk send a few shirts to many addresses (friends/relatives) with a letter inside along the lines of, "Dear uncle, here is the England shirt I promised you. I've also enclosed one each for your 32 children." etc. Then when you return you just go round and pick'em up.

Scouse.

You are allowed to send back to the UK in seperate consignments gifts to any number of people up to a value of £76 per person. The law is unclear on how many you can send and at what frequencies. If you send it EMS it will normally be delivered by UPS or Parcel Force. My brother works in the UK UPS reciving hub at East Midlands Airport - customs have dogs there all the time sniff everything coming in from Asia and South America onlt really intrested in finding drugs. Also put a low value on your package say 1500 baht - and mark it gifts. I recenlty sent a full crate 1 sq meter filled with wood carvings marked it up as the true value for declaration no duty - customs did not even open it.

To divert from the original subject .I sent just 12 packets [240] of cigarettes to my son last month by air mail .He never received them as the English Customs confiscated the same sending him a letter stating it contravened regulations .

What happened to the 200 cigarettes allowance you are allowed ? Are they so petty they will not allow just 2 packets over.

                    Deckard .

There is an allowance that includes 50 cigarettes sent as a gift.

Nothing as 200 cigarettes, which you might have mistaken for the allowance granted to travellers entering the UK from outside the EU. In this case you can bring 200 but must have with you when entering the country.

As for sending clothes back.

I have just sent 8 parcels containing: football shirts, Von dutch handbags e.t.c

I marked them up as clothing and valued at £30 (you ar only allowed £34) and sent as a gift.

All got back no probs!

WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT USE THE PARCEL COMPANY ON THE 2ND FLOOR AT TOPS! THEY RIP YOU OFF!

I found this out for myself, they promise you that anything you send will get past thai customs.

Tried myself elseware using E.M.S and had no probs. :o

I often import product in the uk from certain asian countries. I normally bring a 20" container which is shipped. When importing products into the UK there are many rules to work with.

When any imports arrive within the UK, the Customs department have the right to inspect the imports, If any of the items are not alowed into the uk or you go over an alowance and Duty payment is not set up, it is simple the Customs in the UK will keep it all, Every single item.

Regarding bringing in clothing, silk from thailand has a very high duty rate when coming into the uk, i believe that a licence is needed to import thai silk. Counterfit products, No matter how good the copy, even if you can not tell the difference, if you do not have a covering letter giving you the right to import the product, on inspection customs will confescate the items.

If you do bring cloths back into the uk, a few in your suite case will be fine, but i give warning to everyone, if you are sending fags back or shirts etc, you may get a way with the first batch, but i promise you will get future packages stopped and coferscated, this will take away any proffits you made.

Even if you put the packages down to being gifts etc, they still fall under the rules.
