007
Monitor lizards caught in action inside Government House's compound Two animals, which are seen roaming inside the compound of Government House, drew a lot of attention of reporters Tuesday morning. They are two monitor lizards mating in a pond behind Thai Kufah Building. Reporters spotted them in action at 9 am and they came to take their pictures and video clips. The reptiles parted each other at about noon. Monitor lizards are seen roaming free in drainage pipes in the compound of the Government House and canals around Government House. Their frequent appearances prompted some, especially government critics, to call them as a symbol of Government House. Their name in Thai is used as abusive word against bad people and their mating is used as abusive word of grouping of bad people. Lilawadee
1. More quality "reporting" by The Nation.. They have completely lost the plot for a while now. 2. I'm impressed with the stamina of monitor lizards. Edited February 5, 2008 by Lilawadee

A_Traveller
Reported in Bangkok Post via dpa, as well, edited to meet their copyright requirement for 'fair use'. ... The reptiles were spotted fornicating in a pond behind the Thai Kufah Building, attracting hordes of photographers and television cameramen stationed at the Government House compound in Bangkok, where the prime minister and other cabinet ministers keep their offices, the Phuchadkarn online news service said.According to Thai belief, the arrival of a monitor lizard to one's home or office augurs bad luck. ... The last line includes the, presumably tongue in cheek phrase, ... newly elected Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej, who has spent the past week coupling together a cabinet ...Regards Edited February 5, 2008 by A_Traveller
Lilawadee
Well, either way such a comparison is highly offensive, and I think I speak on behalf of monitor lizards everywhere in saying this. Ricardo
Does anybody know, is it good or bad luck, for these bonking-reptiles to appear at Government House, just when the new government are taking their places and picking the best-located offices ? Should a feng-shui expert be consulted ? And would he give some hints on how to weaken the Baht, in line with PPP policy, or is that already written-off ? Ricardo
I recall that there was ample evidence that TRT & Departed Leader were believers, so I guess that this is bad news, for PPP as well. Oh dear !

No we don't but the city manager has plan to keep them for leather industry. Imagine how it's will be like to use the monitor lizard's purse. Cool! In some city in ISan, they also eat kind of ground lizard-YAE but I don't think we Thai would eat the monitor lizard. Too scarryyyy Who knows, this is kitchen cabinet, anything could happen..;-) Edited February 7, 2008 by SongtaiJ
