Dropped in at a Petronas petrol station on Rama 4, waited for a while, no one came to fill up tank, till lady said to me "self service" ..........

Told her there are plenty of other stations that are happy to give service, and moved 50 m up the road to a shell.

Hope we dont end up like Malaysia / Oz and other countries.... is the the beginning of the end of a "service" stations ?

I sympathize with anyone who loses their employment, but I prefer self-serve petrol stations. I don't really get much service from the attendants, anyway. They don't check my oil or clean my window. Instead they take their own sweet time coming to fuel my vehicle, and they put that silly advertising sign on my hood at Jet (even though I get out of the car, so there's no one in the vehicle to see it). Their lack of service puts me in the awkward position of possibly embarrassing them by doing their job for them (and we all know how important it is to save face in Thailand). If it's a self-serve station, I can take care of my window and check my oil without taking that chance, so as far as self-serve stations goes -- bring 'em on.

Agree with pattyboy !! Btw.. where was this petronas ?!? might wanna use it one day .. i'm not that old yet, & can surely use some exercise, after a drive

I gave up on self serve back in the days when I did not know how to order in Thai. Now I can say something like,

"benzene, gow nung, dem tank." But I want to fill up, and that doesn't work in the self serve when I tried it. So I do not bother.

That signage on hood is to tell you if your car is ready to go, or you may drive out pulling the hose

My husband likes to stop at Petronas pump on the way from BKK up North. Many times we're the only customer. He likes this as he hates waiting. Last month they cleaned our front window. Toilets were clean. One time they said their computer was broken down & couldn't sell, so we stopped at Caltex after passing Jet. Gee, Caltex had very smelly toilet and staff was not smiling.

Both of the Petronas I use on Ratchadaphisek are still full service. A+ groveling service, just the way I like it.

Whilst I have no real issues with filling up myself, I don't really like turning up for a business meeting smelling of diesel as so often happens when the pump handle leaks or you get a sprayback.

Local Jet is still full service and happy
