Railway police seize 100,000 speed pills on Bangkok-bound train

BANGKOK: -- Thai railway police on Saturday seized 100,000 methamphetamime 'speed' pills on a train bound from Chiang Mai to Bangkok.

No arrests were made, Railway Police commander Pol. Maj-Gen. Kowit Wongrungroj said.

Following a tip, railway police found the speed pills in a bag stowed above a passenger seat of a train in Nakhon Sawan province, Gen. Kowit said, but they were unable to associate the baggage with a particular passenger.

No passengers were sitting near where the bag was found but railway police were able to collect a finger print and hope to be able to trace it.

They believed that the seized speed pills were produced at a Wa ethnic drug laboratory in Myanmar for unidentified buyers in Bangkok and said they could fetch as much as Bt30 million from the sale.

Given what's happened recently with the Captain Nat or Nit or whatever his name was, maybe the headline should read:

Railway Police Seize 150,000 speed pills - but report only 100,000 recovered"

Also interesting to note that TNA makes no suggestion that this is anything other than a FACT. Shoudn't the report say, "Thai Railway Police CLAIM they seized 100,000 pills"??n Did TNA have a reporter out there to view the event?

were able to collect a finger print and hope to be able to trace it.

Some months ago they were still discussing, yes in 2007, the creation of a national database for Thai criminals and ex-convicts.

Good luck

This is a country where government officials, still write information in ledgers, not databases, use Gmail/Yahoo/Hotmail for government work related correspondance, where you can go dig up archives for your birth certificate and government officials let you leave the building with the one and only original ledger containing your information and that of hundreds of other Thai citizens while there are no other copies or microfiche archived elsewhere or on site. :o

If the link to Burma is true then it appears that the junta may be ratcheting up the money making enterprises that have sustained it in the past when foreign funds were in short supply. Burma is a polie state and you don't manufacture drugs without the knowledge of the junta. Does not bode well for Thailand's national interests.

Yes I have seen what this sh!t does.

But, as long as the police and military are involved in trafficking it here or using it as an extortion tool, I will keep making jokes out about it.

And what good is one finger print on the bag unless EVERYONE on the train with possible access to it is finger printed before being allowed to leave said train?

Is this fundamental common sense; investigative procedure (unknown here, I know) or a big and evil contravention of human rights?

Not that the latter has ever slowed things up locally, to my limited knowledge...............

Continue poking fun at these incompetents, do! They will never read or learn from it, but it DOES make the rest of us feel just a little better.
