Smoking Ban In Restaurants On Samui?

I noticed that very recently a lot of restaurants (in Lamai) are displaying a sign that reads:

"No Smoking - New Law - B2000 Fine"

And they've pulled the ash trays.

And they appear to be serious, when I tried to light up I was asked politely to go for a walk on the road.

The staff said to me "sorry, we don't want any trouble".

Is this for real, or is this just some enthusiastic public servants finding yet another way to supplement their low salaries?

And is this going to be all of Samui? Like the bars too?

That'd be interesting, to see a smoking ban in beer bars, haaaa haaaaa moooohaahahahhaaaaaa

I cycle to work every day in the uk, no one has any thought to the fumes I ingest even though im doing my bit for the environment by cycling, freeing up traffic congestion, parking problems and carbon emmissions!!!!!

Smoking is not.

Driving isnt necessary for a lot of people, especially those that cause all the congestion in the mornings, just cos they are to lazy to walk or take public transport to work or those bored house wifes that do the school run every day. !!

I think it is a waste of time trying to get a smoker to understand the smoking ban. Basically it is like saying to a Heroine Addict “here is $100 go and get my shopping when he is cold turkey” you know you will never see the $100 again! Smokers are just the same, except they need a fix 20 – 60 times a day instead on once.

We have all kinds of laws passed that never get discussed or cause a problem.

Seat belts, speeding, crash helmets, alcohol restriction and noise. But as soon as you tell a junky they cant smoke it causes problems!

They don't care where they smoke or who it affects as long as they can indulge and get there fix without any inconvenience to themselves. They do not care about other members of society who have to suffer as long as they can get there fix!

How many Road accidents are caused by smokers dropping ash on there laps or get distracted whilst opening a fresh pack of fags?

Yes smoking is legal, but so is buying a 200mph car.

But it is not legal to drive it at that speed!

Drink driving kills people, That is why it is Illegal!

I agree you should have the freedom to choose to smoke and to risk any health problems that it may cause to YOU!

But i don't see it a right to smoke where it affect other people rights, quality of life or health however great or small!

I just think that seeing as how I did not really choose to smoke, but was brainwashed from childhood by media, government and businss, I should at least have a segregated area of a restaurant or bar where I can have a smoke.

Like, I don't need to be told it is bad for me, I am slightly aware of that.

But half the food I eat is worse for me, bacon, eggs, cheese, all seroiusly bad foods.

Should we ban those? I know people who get sick to the gut if they even small bacon or greasy meat cooking.

So, should we ban bacon too?

There is no SCIENTFIC proof of passive smoking damage, only anecdotal evidence, that is a fact.

The air in your average city is far more damaging to your lungs and overall health than passive tobacco smoke ingestion.

And all this not to mention the fact the our poor western governments would simply collapse without their death-tax on tobacco.

I mean, get real, ban tobacco or get off the soap box.

I would accept a total ban on selling tobacco and smoking in public places.

But while it is not illegal it MUST be accepted, simple.

I do NOT accept this selective hysteria, reminds me of Islamists carpping on about Danish cartoons, while their own brothers blow up their own sisters and children and about this they say nothing.
