Conventional wisdom says it's easy.

teaching forums will tell you to just roll on in and ask.

The schools are that desperate.

Some of them are....most in fact.

To the point that i have an endless stream of 30-50ish blokes rolling in wearing fisherman's pants, no shave and a breath smelling very alcoholish.

usually i hide and tell the thai staff to deal with them.

Would anyone in their right mind nip into a school in the uk stinking of piss and ask for a job?

The interviews are tedious.

You know from the outset that the bloke/bird isn't going to fit in, yet decency dictates that you go through the process.

"do you have any questions?"

"yes, where is the best place to learn thai?"

hmmmmmm.

it is unbelievably difficult to find staff that are good.

they are 90% crap.

If you are serious about living here and serious about working here.

don't take the piss, don't smell like shit.

don't look like the sort of person that kids would run away from.

They deserve better than that.

CMLoon, I love your avatar! Are your students like that? Five more years, and they could dance in a Welsh coal mine for 98 pence per hour!

Is 18 + 5 ............. too old for you, PeaceBlondie?

Petch, why are you making salacious comments? I was just telling the Loon that I like his avatar, because the students are having a great time being silly. I nearly bought the franchise for silliness.

98 + 5 is too old for me. :D

Maybe there is a reason why the more " professional " types don,t apply there.

Is it a government school? Ya ba dealers stood outside? :o Crap pay? The school appears dirty and run down?

( just curious )

Last year a Thai friend had to work as an interviewer for a Language School for a couple of weekends. She later said to me "I didn't really apprciate how normal you are before!" :o

I resolved long ago to close threads which tended to cast teachers (in general) in Thailand in a bad light, as the OP does here. It's now one of the rules of this subforum, and so sadly this thread is closed (awwwwwww). Take it to the "teaching forums" and go fishing there if you like, OP. I don't think anyone here fits your bill, and everything worth saying about your problem has already just been said.

Assuming your thread matched its topic, I would say that to find suitably paid teaching work with proper paperwork in Thailand is one of the hardest things I've done in my life.
