Hi all

I am trying to get my thai GF a uk holiday visa.

I have a couple of questions.

all the paperwork that i supply for being a sponsor i.e. Salary slips and bank statments etc, Do i get these back?

There is a lot of personal stuff being handed over and would like it back.

Final note , My G/F works in a resturant, but its more like unoffical work and she is not keen on getting a letter of employment of the owner and i dont even think it will be on headed paper even if she got a letter.

She goes back home on monday and i meet up with her in a months time , so will it be better to say she is unemployed?

i have found this site very usefull, so thank you

Hi Malc,

I got all my stuff back with my g.f's passport and visa. There was photo's, old bank books, tabian bahn etc..... The parcel was sent from Bkk to Phuket.

As for work record - My G.f hasn't worked in the last 2 and a half years or so, and we have been together a little over 3 and a half. She was also working in a restaurant. I got a letter from her boss and a translation into English, put them with our time line and handed them both in with her application. Note: She wasn't on the books in this job either, so no tax was being paid.

Hi malct,

Don't know why you posted 2 topics but this is my answer in the other topic you posted.

You will probably find this post has been moved to the Visa section. And it is there where you will get the best information.

To answer a couple of your question's.

Yes, you get all of your documentation back after the visa has been given or refused.

As for her job. The biggest difficulty you have, will be convincing the ECO that she intends to return to Thailand after the visit. This is one of the biggest stumbling blocks for visa applications. So letters from employers, proof of land and property ownership etc. all go to make a better case in convincing the ECO that she will indeed return.

Good luck.

Yes you do get your documents back but in our case the bank statements went missing and according to The UK embassy they had returned them. Best thing to do is to take copies of everything you send them.

Visas seem to be granted on a whim these days. I applied for a close relative of my wife and had it turned down even though she is in a self employed established business. Currently on appeal which of course takes about 18 weeks!

Good Luck

Hi

When I applied two years ago, I was told that it was more favourable to ask for a 3 month rather than a 6 month visa. Also, when giving reasons for visa I told them my parents were elderly (true) and that they were unable to travel to Thailand to meet my girlfriend (also true). But I think the main thing is to show that your girlfriend intends to return to Thailand.

Hope this helps.

As stated above, Reason to Return can be a stumbling block, so address as many issues as you can and put forward a good case that out-weighs this area, family commitments can be a sinificant factor and can go a long way to satisfying good reasons to return.

Thank you for putting my question's in the right forum and thank you for your advice.

I am intending on travelling back to thailand with my GF in september for a holiday and i am stating this in the sponsor Letter, so any luck that might be a plus for her.

Its impossible really to prove that anyone will return to thailand and i guess its down to luck.
