Husband held in wife's fatal stabbing

Blood-covered Ratchanok Seesura died after being found in apartment

DOWNEY - A woman who was stabbed to death allegedly by her husband in the apartment they shared with their 3-year-old son was identified Tuesday.

Ratchanok Seesura, 28, was killed at about 3:30 a.m. Monday in her apartment at 10429 La Reina Ave., said Sgt. Leslie Murray of the Downey Police Department.

Several hours later, her husband, 35-year-old Kris Young Lee of Downey, was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder at the Los Angeles County Men's Central Jail, said Sgt. Ralph Romero of the Downey Police Department. His bail was set at $1 million.

Lee allegedly stabbed his wife to death and then confessed the crime to California Highway Patrol officers after he crashed his car on the San Gabriel (605) Freeway, authorities said.

Early Monday officers responded to a call for a domestic disturbance at an apartment and discovered Seesura lying on the bedroom floor. She had been stabbed multiple times and was covered in blood, authorities said.

Downey paramedics provided medical treatment, but the the victim died at the scene.

It was also reported that the couple's 3-year-old son was seen leaving the apartment unattended. The child was later found at a neighbor's house, authorities said.

The toddler had a cut on his foot that required stitches, but it is unclear if it was related to the stabbing or occurred previously, authorities said.

While officers were investigating the crime scene, the CHP was dispatched to a traffic collision on the northbound 605 freeway at the Rose Hills exit in Pico Rivera.

Lee, who was one of the involved drivers, claimed that he had just murdered his wife, authorities said. Lee allegedly told CHP officers he had an argument with his wife and stabbed her with a large kitchen knife.

Lee suffered injuries during the altercation with his wife and was transported to USC Medical Center for treatment. After he was listed in good condition, authorities took him into custody, Romero said.

Seesura was born in Thailand, Murray said. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office released her name after family notification.

Downey man faces charges in slaying of wife

DOWNEY - A Downey man who allegedly stabbed his wife to death early Tuesday morning, then crashed his car on the 605 Freeway in Pico Rivera, will be charged with first- degree murder today, officials said.

Kris Young Lee, 35, was taken into custody after crashing his Toyota Camry at 3:45 a.m. on the northbound 605 Freeway.

Downey Police Sgt. Jeff Calhoun said the argument began in the bedroom and escalated into a shoving match. Lee allegedly went to the kitchen, picked up a knife, and returned to Seesura, stabbing her repeatedly.

Paramedics treated Seesura, 28, but she died at the scene. A 3-year-old boy, who Lee said was the couple's son, was seen wandering from the apartment and was discovered by a neighbor when the police were called.

The boy had minor injuries, but their cause was unknown. "The child has a small laceration on one of his feet," Calhoun said. "It did require some sutures at the hospital, but we're not sure how he sustained that injury."

The boy is now in protective custody, Calhoun said. According to Calhoun, Seesura is a Thai immigrant and most of her relatives still reside in Thailand.

Her immigration status was not clear. She was married to Lee, of Korean descent, but officials said they did not know whether he was U.S.-born or himself an immigrant.

In the struggle with his wife, Lee sustained injuries to his hand and was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center for treatment. He was listed in good condition Tuesday.

"He needed surgery on his hand," Calhoun said.

According to Calhoun, Lee will appear in court today unless he does not receive medical clearance to do so.
