Factory worker dies after falling in vat of tuna

SURAT THANI: --A worker in a canning factory in Thailand's southern province of Surat Thani died yesterday after falling into a vat of boiling tuna fish.

Mrs. Penkair Thongorn, 51, a worker at Thawiworn Inter Trading Co. Ltd., died in hospital after receiving multiple burns on 5 October.

The worker was cleaning the floor near the boiling vat when she slipped and fell in.

Colleagues at the factory said that Mrs. Penkair was not based in the department where the incident happened, but that she was a hard working woman who tended to help out in other departments when she had a spare moment.

The factory, which paid for all Mrs. Penkair’s medical bills, has been ordered by provincial industry officials to install railings around the boiling vats.

Mrs. Penkair’s relatives have declined to press legal charges.

And the tuna has been canned and will be found on supermarket shelves throughout the world ......

No safety railings surrounding huge boiling pots?? :o

Every major factory should a safety department, safety manager, and a safety committee? This factory is obscenely guilty of gross negligence. :D

I feel very, very sorry for her family...she sounded like a very nice lady. :D

Rest in peace....

:D

That's one thing i have noticed about the Los,The whole lack of health and safety, and rule breaking,Probably why Los is so laid back and appealing,But when things fo wrong then lots of people suffer :o

Have they fished her out yet? :o

Sad, but not uncommon, like the youngster who fell in the rice last week.

astral should be taken as A__hole, you are not in the least bit funny with your comment. Where do you and your ilk get that comments like this are in any way funny. Very sad indeed for the lady that must have suffered extreme pain and suffering before she passed away. Condolences to the family of this nice lady.

Get a life you idiot.

Aren't these Western concepts that cost money to implement? And this is Thailand with poor people willing to work in dangerous (by Western standards) places. :o
