I am writing a master thesis that involves propaganda and need some books on this subject. I have placed an order on amazon.com, but they take forever to ship (estimated shipping may 5.). Is there a book store in bkk with a wide selection on topics like these? Have searched the otherwise great bookstore in Siam Paragon, but with little results. Anyone have advice?

Confessions of an economic hitman ?

There are certainly tons of documentaries on the subject, but I have seen few books published.

What is on your list so far?

This is not the kind of thing that you are likely to find much about in many bookshops, anywhere. If Kinokuniya doesn't have it, you can pretty well resign yourself to waiting for Amazon. :o

Have you tried online resources such as 'google books' which often lets you view quite a few pages of books for free. I often use this for postgraduate assignments. 'Google Scholar' is OK too.

Yeah, I knew it was a longshot, but worth a try. I have been reading Chomsky, but he angles it too much towards news media and specific events. I am looking for a more political and general basis of propaganda, as the angle of my thesis has very little literature on it, and even less linking it with propaganda and/or politics. The ones I am waiting for are:

Politics and propaganda: weapons of mass seduction

War media and propaganda: a global perspective

They are both in stock, and ordered 25/3, but why the "sweet caress" does it take amazon 6 weeks to put them i a box and send them? Is this a "TIS"-moment?

can i ask you few questions? where did you study and will you get some kind of degree for your "master thesis"?

are some popular science books or coffee table books 'good' enough for your kind of master thesis?

did nobody teach you the basics of literature research?

why you don't go to a university library here in bangkok? there you will find more academic publications, professional articles in journals.

i guess interlibrary loan should be possible too, but okay here you will have to wait again, but a master thesis you do not write over the weekend.

I studied at Lillehammer University in Norway. I live in Thailand on student loan (and will also soon start a second masters degree at Ramkhamhaeng Uni, but thats a different story). My degree will be Master in media science. I have been taught literature research, and have found loads, but most of my sources are research papers published on-line, and I still like to read paper books as I find it easier to spin my own thoughts when i read them (why I don't know, but it works for me). I have recently "hit the wall" writing-wise and need to read some more to freshen the angle.

The bit on propaganda is not the main feature of the thesis, but need to connect the theories with some acclaimed authors (hence my thoughts on Chomsky, which I will not be using). I had a couple of books, but they have not been satisfactory. And I also know it does not get written over a weekend as I have been working on this off and on for nearly a year.

Thanks for the tip on university library, but I did not know they carried English books in such a narrow field?

Do you mind second hand books? if not, there's a good place on Tanao Road (the shop's actually right opposite of Khao San Road entrance on the North side, right next to Burger King). I can't remember the name of the shop. Another place (new books) which carries interesting titles on Asia (mostly are politics or partially) is Orchid Books (www.orchidbooks.com) or you can visit the shop on 4th floor, Silom Complex (Saladaeng Skytrain Station). I wish you the best with your thesis.

i think it's not such a narrow field and why you shouldn't found english books at a bangkok/thai university. i guess more than thai language books on the subject. and they teach media and communication theory, linguistic, semiotic, politic science and all that subjects here.

you can find different OPACs from libraries on the net.

http://uc.thailis.or.th/cgi-bin/gw/chamele...ng=en&skin=

http://library.car.chula.ac.th/

here is an overview that links to many different schools and library.

http://uc.thailis.or.th/

keep in mind that the OPACs maybe not perfect or just in construction. you can not do everything online and sometimes you have to go oldschool, like in the nineties and have to go to the library.

i don't know if there is a central library or every faculty have a own and how the 'serve' non-university visitors. but for sure they will have the relevant journals, reference books and abstracts.

if you check out the halls of books, please let a field report follow.

and put roland barthes in the bibliography.
