Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen posted a pointed rebuttal on Facebook following the decision by Thailand’s Ramkhamhaeng University to revoke an honorary degree previously conferred upon him.

In his statement, Hun Sen dismissed the move as insignificant, recalling that he had discarded the degree as far back as 2008. “There is no need to revoke it. I already discarded that degree in the toilet back in 2008, when Thailand deployed its military to invade Cambodia’s Preah Vihear Temple,” he wrote.

He further stated that the honorary degree held no value to him. “I hold no pride whatsoever in a piece of paper bearing your name. Hun Sen’s intellect was not born from your institution. Hun Sen’s intellect comes from the teachings of the Cambodian people and the schools of Cambodia.”

The revocation decision by Ramkhamhaeng University followed ongoing tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. Hun Sen’s firm rejection highlights the enduring sensitivity of this longstanding bilateral issue.

The university’s move and Hun Sen’s response underscore the complex interplay between diplomacy, national pride and historical grievances in the region.

Good for him. Why Thailand or even Ramkhamhaeng University would think revoking a honorary degree would hold any importance is beyond me. It carries no weight in anything. Given only to browbeat the holder of it.

.......There is no need to revoke it. I already discarded that degree in the toilet........

🤣🤣🤣

He'll get his comeuppance the next time he goes to apply for a job and his potential employer asks if he has a degree from Ramkhamhaeng University. Then he'll come crawling back to Thailand to ask them to reissue the diploma.

Eeeeh? That´s a joke, right?

What is it worth such a degree??? a star or stripe less on the uniform... that's it...

Hey now, he's missing out because  Ramkhamhaeng University's world ranking is something;

SCImago Institutions Rankings ranks it 6156th in the world.

UNIRANKS rankings  it the 23rd best in Thailand and 1106th best in Asia

EDU Ranks  says it is 891 of 5,830 universities In Asia

Having an honourary diploma from this place could have opened doors. Like who wouldn't be impressed by such a diploma?

"Hun Sen's intellect comes from the teachings of the Cambodian people..." and his many years of working with the Khmer Rouge and their rump state.

Such a ridiculous petty thing to do from an under average university - even for Thailand

I'm sure Hun Sen lost sleep over it

No, it highlights the childish behavior of these guys and the zero value of a degree from Ram.

I assume he was stamping his foot at the same time.

How staggeringly immature.

I thought that was obvious. Dictators don't need to apply for jobs.
