Hi,

I am currently on a non immigrant B visa with an extension of stay until Dec 2008. I will be finishing work soon ( I can decide when myself ) and will be leaving the country. Depending on circumstances I will either be returning to the UK, or leaving the country to come in on a different visa.

Will my WP and visa be cancelled automatically when I leave the country, or do i have to inform anyone about my leaving?

If I have to cancel the WP myself, I assume that will invalidate my business visa, so do I hand my WP in on the day I leave or do I get an amount of time to leave the country after it's cancelled? Do I need to get anything stamped in my passport to this effect?

Thanks for any advice.

Either do both the same day or obtain a 7 day extension of stay from Immigration. Your permitted to stay will immediately expire when on an extension and work ends.

So I don't need anything in my passport? I can give my work permit to my lawyers, tell them the date I'm leaving and they'll just cancel it on that day? And I'll have no problem coming back in on a tourist or non o?

I don't know the requirements for your lawyer to cancel (if your passport must be presented) so would check with him first. You should not have any problem coming back on whatever entry you want/have visa for.

My buddy just got told that the 7 day period is out and that you have to leave immediately. I am not saying this is concrete information, but there does seem to have been some change in this. Not exactly sure what it is yet though.

You have to obtain the 7 day extension of stay, as I said. Immigration will provide a 7 day extension of stay for 1,900 baht in such a case.

More on this.

Apparently you have to leave the same day ss your permit is cancelled. No 7 day leeway anymore. People who've left in the 7 day period have been fined overstay.

You can obtain a 7 day extension if you want it. Those who reported being fined did not apply for extension as policy has/had been to allow 7 days to leave.

This is distressing news, ladda. I am changing jobs and need info that is verifiable. Could you post a link or something?

I am here on a Non-O extension based on my work permit. My new job doesn't start until May 21 my current job will end when I inform them. When should I give my notice? If I have to leave on the same day I give notice that will make things a bit tight. When will I know when my employer has cancelled my WP? It is all so confusing.

Changing jobs is different I think. You will need a letter from your employer saying when you've left. Organise your trip to get the new visa and then tell your employer what date to put on the letter.

I don't know the full details. I was hoping someone here would know all about it.
