I believe the rule says report by "registered mail". Some people have said they recieve a receit in the mail that verifies that immigration has recieved your report.

Can someone tell me is this the way to go and if so, what do you ask for at the post office when you mail in your report.

The stated method is registered mail sent one week in advance - believe a number of people also use EMS. So you would ask for registry or EMS service. They may have special counter for such service but I have never used Post Office.

Use EMS (32.-Baht). Use the EMS reference number to track your mail here:EMS tracking

once you have confirmation that the mail has arrived at the Imm office (make a printout of the delivery confirmation) you'll be OK even if the return mail from Imm gets lost in the mail.

This is only if you mail A.R. (Answer Requested) at an extra charge. Sending EMS don't bother about A.R since you can track it online.

Here is a bullet-proof way of sending documents that have to arrive at the other end.

At the post office pick up a postcard-sized yellow card (see post-24939-1209105711_thumb.jpg ) as the front page and post-24939-1209105737_thumb.jpg ) as the back page). At the front page fill in your address (you the sender). Below the services on that card add a checked square box and write EMS next to it. At the back of that same card fill in the address the letter has to be sent to (i.e. Swiss Embassy) and below fill in the city/village you are sending from and the current date. The officer at the post office will attach this card to the letter that you want to send, he will also put a post stamp in the upper tier of that yellow card and write down the EMS tracing number in the middle tier.

Above yellow card will be in your post mail box 4-5 days later and at the back of it you will notice the date, time and the signature of the person who received your shipment. Should that yellow card not arrive within a decent time (say 10 days or so) go back to the post office and I guarantee you they will look into the matter, even in Thailand.

Bth such an EMS letter costs THB44 and from the post office you will get a white slip with the same tracing number that you will find later on in the middle tier of that yellow card’s back page.
