Angkor Wat

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have some free time over the next couple of weeks and would like to visit the Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Has anyone travelled there from Bangkok and if so what is the best way to get there?

Any information/tips would be welcomed.

Cheers, Rick

Also do a google for:  canby publications cambodia

They have a very good FREE guide book for Siem Reap and the Angkor Wat complex.  Free at the hotels and guest houses.

I recommend the Red Piano guest house, have stayed there twice and my sister and her group, eight total, stayed there last year.  It's right downtown, old market area.

Hi Rick

We stayed at the Casa Ankor hotel, that was very good and I would also recomend the Dead Fish Bar (also near the S. Reip Old market) for good music and feeding the live Crocs!

Fly in by all means.

Bus trip is ok till border, after that....... sheeeeeeeeesh, neva again.

For visiting Ankor Wat, do not even think of the offered 3 day pass.

I went early in the morning.

The nite before, I made a deal with a local tuk tukker.

$US20.00, all day, he was great and took me allover, I saw everything I wanted and more.

Take most of your spending money in small denomination US bills. Baht is also accepted there. Spend any local money kwik smart, useless once ya leave Camboge.

On return, I took the fast ferry to Phnom Phen, great trip, then fly.

Glad you liked the website bangkokrick :o stay at the twindragons guesthouse the bloke who runs the website owns it he is a great guy

If you have a car Rick, I think the ASEAN agreement allows you to drive through the border, anyone else know if this is true? The road from Aranyaprathet to SiemReip was really bad last year, is it still like that and should farangs attempt driving it in the rainy season?
