Ghost road looks and feels after 2nd world war!

Who ever is in charge of cementing (project) roads here in Samui is truly making fun out of locals and tourists. If I could puke I would - on a daily basis just because I'm driving this useless frikking excuse what just to be called a street before big machines peeled all the usable concrete away and left. I have lived here long time and given time for the known stupidity but this totally tops everything I've never seen or experienced!

Who the F^#K are these people to provide us with a half job (which I kind of saw and felt in advance that would happen) and F^#K other people work and businesses by taking a crappy road and turning it in to a nightmare that never seems to end!

Who ever is in charge of this bull should retire at once and give us some kind of information why only tenth of the guys that started the task are still in and trying to make it look like someone is still working around… People brake their cars, scooters and hearts on a daily base because of these FO%^&$*RS. You don't even wanna leave your house because road is beyond drivable and it's been like that for a LONG – Way too long time!

Driving this sh#@%ty road is just something that we had - we're not expecting that there would be a bunch of guys who would turn it in to this nightmarish joke. Sure I've saved a ton of money since I don't want to leave the house (since the road is only suitable for rally cars). This road has been crappy for ever but surely when you peel it and leave it in a crappiest condition you could imagine – how does that make the community feel: Expectations – action – just kidding = (after 6 months) disappointment

Anyone out there who could response what is this joke (of building – NOOOT) all about of building the Bon Sa Kai Rod (known as Ghost Road)??

You're not the only one that thinks, WHAT THE hel_l HAVE THEY DONE??? They were to fix the Ghost road and it's even worse than before! Have personally seen two deaths due to the condition of the road, and both were Thai Teens. PLEASE FIX THE BLOODY "ROAD" BEFORE MORE HAVE TO DIE!!!!

Yes, well, we who live in Kan have much smoother roads, but the World War II cemeteries, whlist passing them will always be in our hearts. :D

Kanchanburi is full of "Ghosts" :o and Koh Samui just full of "wannabee Ghosts" :D

Kan Win :D

P.S. Where is Bon Sa Kai Rod (known as Ghost Road) near Reggie Pub ? If so that is the most <deleted>-ist road on Koh Samui, if I ever saw one. :D If not, tell me where the "Ghost Road" is. :D

A road that goes from Bangrak to the lake road. :D which wasn't all bad 5 years ago unless it rained alot, but now is.

Went down that road about a month ago, it's a terrible, terrible mess now.

Odd thing is that Ghost road was the only way I could get from Chaweng to Plai Laem during rainy season last year on a Mio (albeit driving with a LOT of care) I wouldn't go down there now at all, unless I wanted a bit of a challenge.

Well the road (? ) is in two parts:Lake road to the crossroad that takes you to the airport and ring rd. the other way. Why didn't you use the road going past the airport to Plai Laem? Was that flooded too? :o If so how did ppl get to the airport? The 2nd leg of the RD.(? ) is where it's bader than bad, from the crossrosd to Bangrak Beach road!

I was going from close to Tesco rather than from Chaweng, so bad flood points for me were at Big C, the Bophut / ring rd junction, lake road, and choeng mon. I think in a car all would have been ok, but on a bike the bandon rd - ghost rd - bang rak was passable at the worst flood time - once it cleared up a bit (think they started pumping out water at big c and the bophut junction) then bang rak - bophut - ring rd was passable too. To be honest I wasn't sure of the road layout at that time, in hindsight maybe the Bandon rd all the way to bang rak (i think this road is the airport rd, in that it runs parallel to lake rd then turns north to the airport and then joins bang rak / big buddha opposite the market) would have been a better option! The whole lot's a bit dark and scary at midnight in torrential rain in November.. but much scarier this year, must buy an oversized gas guzzler.

That road is unreal! Are you saying it has actually got worse?

Im afraid so!! Much worse!

The part after team mart (towards chaweng) where they actually finiched up 200 meters, shows that what will eventually be will be good. The big problem with this thing at this point is that there seem to be nobody supervising it. Its like the local monkeys are left alone with the thinking and planning and we all know they are not to good with that! One day they close up chaweng-direction outside team-mart to put concrete, next they stop that and close ban rak direction to dig, next day back at team mart. Now they digged up the part from blessing to ban rak, that actually was one of the few driveble roads on the island when the flooding was here. It had no major problems. I remember friends in chaweng not able to leave their house while i hardly knew it was flooding! Well, after digging it all up, id say one good rain and nobody down here will be able to go anywhere. Espeially since the monkey daddys who drives the killertrucks (big in speed of lightning) as a shortcut here everyday and f... it up even more.

Anybody out there that ever speek to somebody in charge, please let them know that right now its a group of local thais that dont have a single clue about what they are doing/not doing. Seem to be left alone with no real instruction and i can not see how this will ever become a road again if not a supervisor with a plan arrives on this messy worksite. At this point all that happened is pure destruction.

I live in KPG and twice a month I go for shopping in Samui and usually I stop in Maya Buri. Is more then one year I must rent a 4WD car to use that road.

And people complain about KPG... Here year by year government improve the roads and, believe me, very quickly. In few years nearly all the island has cement roads.

One of my Samuian Business Friends, goes: "it's all natural, don't think of this as of roads, they are dirttracks!"

Take a look at the Article in the Samui Express...concerning Samuis roads, they could be the "undoing"..

Samui Residents already inquiring about the revenue which is accumulated here and send off to Surat, there the roads are in top nick!

ahh... well finally somthing got to happen, when? That is the question!

TiT

Sad, but it is as is...

I know an expat that drove a bike on the mentioned road at night, clipped one of the new concrete drainage manhole's started to wobble came off the bike and impaled himself thru the stomach on some Rebar ( reinforcing steel ) which was sticking up at a 45 degree angle.

If this had happened in Europe the construction company would have had the book thrown at them.

In this same Samui Express they are saying that bunch of Burmese workers were apprehended and send home. Could this be the reason why there's only handful of workers left to the road site? Maybe there's investigation on this road company? Pending manslaughter lawsuits against construction company...?

Anyone out there with some actual knowledge?

Todays 2 hours of heavy rain showed that i was wrong in my previous post, and i am happy to admit it. At least the drainage witch now is finiched the whole way seems to be properly done!! 15 minuites after the heavy rain the was almost not a drip of water on the way from blessing to ban rak. Gives some hope for the future to come.......

But for crying out loud, get the concrete on there now!!!

You are happy that some tax paid construction is properly done - you must be living longtime in Koh Samui! Wait for the next big rain, the drainage will be blocked by sand from the neighbourhood constructions or broken by cement trucks.

My house for the last year is right opposite maya and i dont have a 4wd car. I have a low 2wd mitsubichi and i managed all the year to go and come home. Give it that i am a very qualified driver, but still it has not yet been 4wd conditions on this road, lets not excaggerate the situation. My neighbour drives a toyota corrolla and also he managed to pass all year. But as we know thai drivers are fantastic. :D

Now, the pagnan situation is different. There is not so much traffic and once you do invest in roads it lasts for a longer time. Samui has all these heavy trucks witch seem to hire only driver with zero skills, that mess up and destroy the roads in no time.. And besides that fact they are also a traffic hassard wherever you meet them. Always honking and blinking in highspeed like the are emergensy-vehicles. :o:D:D .

Now i go to Sweden for 4 months but beleive me, i have no expectations what so ever that the roadconstruction in any way proceeded when i come back!! Lets see if they manage to surprice me!

similar situation to you mattias, i live just off soi dreamland but fortunately i have a big ford ranger 4wd, which i am actually interested in selling, are you interested? special price for a near neighbour.

i have heard different rumours, one that there are 2 teams on the project, one to start and one to finish, the other is that the company is a big mafia cheese on samui and he just likes taking the samuians money and wont do a proper job anyway, might get myself in trouble with these accusations/rumours but then you only live once!! or is that twice :o

special price is my middle name, im always interrested when that is mentioned! Give me a pm.

Both your roumors make some kind of sence and i beleive both of them, sounds realistic to me.Obviously it has to be something like that, we just dont know for sure...... :D .

Man, its in a way going to be great to leave this corruption for a while a get back to the real world where things work. Allthough i truly love this place i have to say that to long in a soceity where everybody is so poor that they actually steel cement to make extra money is frusterating!!

In sweden they once interwieved a polich policeman that got caught selling cheap grosseries on the "black market". He let us know that a polich policeman makes less than a swedich prisoner in jail so what did he have to loose? Well, a thai doctor makes less than a polich policeman so go figure we have corruption over here.....it all makes sence. But its gonna be nice to leave for some months and get a real perspective on things.
