Twin A Town To Pattaya

I reckon Pattaya could be twinned with Deadwood, can you think of somewhere better :D

Sheesh, you're not taking your loss at the Miss Tiffany's contest very well, are you ? :D Cheer up, there's always next year !

I think Pattaya is better twinned to a place like Las Vegas (without the gambling).

Or New Orleans (without the very high murder rate).

Or Amsterdam (without the very visible drug problems).

Or Shangri La (without the travel difficulties).

Or Sodom and Gomorrah (without the biblical destruction, yet)

Maybe even the Bermuda Triangle ! Lots of lost souls, lots of people that mysteriously lose track of time (and money), strange going-ons at all hours of the day and night. I wonder. Is Pattaya on the opposite side of the earth from the Bermuda Triangle ? Could that explain the strange phenomenons that happen in Pattaya ? Or is it just the booze ? :o

After careful thought I would nominate two likely candidates

Angeles City Philippines

OR

Ngoya In Bataam Indonesia

But at the end of the day according to legend THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE Isn't that right Mr. Kurgen?

I'm afraid I don't know the names but there are towns in Mexico sitting on the American border which fulfil the same function as Pattaya and rather fittingly have high murder rates and are awash with guns. They could share the secrets of their respective successes.

Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Actually there are lots of parallels.

Aside from the legal casinos which Pattaya doesn't have (yet, anyway), lots of illegal / underground gambling in Pattaya. All of the "vice" elements that seem to follow the casinos are there; prostitution, drugs, alcohol, et al. Pattaya may be cheaper, more fun and "on display" than Atlantic City, but it can be had just the same.

The beach is filthy, the water stinking and dangerously polluted. (Hypodermic syringes washing up on the shore.)

The walking area on the beach side of Beach Road = Boardwalk. And in the wee hours, you find the same kind of strange creepy people on the Boardwalk as on Beach Road. Not a safe place to be.

I'm too lazy to do the research, but I'd guesstimate that they are actually quite close in population size.

Edit - thought of something else.... the proximity to "megalopolis-es"... Bangkok and NYC.

Chiang mai named your city!

Tijuana

Definitely a contender. If it had a dirty beach, it would be perfect.

Pattaya has similarities with Liverpool in the sense they are both coastal city's and both magnates for criticism by the media. However Liverpool must be categorised as Pattaya’s alter ego. Liverpool is cold, miserable, windy, rainy, aggressive and expensive. The bars in Liverpool are full of moody, poorly educated druggy scallies. The locals hate the royal family. Shops and banks close at 5:30pm during the week (and all day on Sundays), which makes the place feel like a ghost town. After dark the streets and parks are empty apart from teenage gangs searching for entertainment in the form vandalism and victimisation, in full knowledge that the police and the courts are there to protect them should any unruly citizen dare to front them. And finally, unlike Chonburi FC, Liverpool have the most famous football club in the world.

Been livin in Pattaya for a year now..........best year of my life.

It's only the local left-footers that hate the Royal family.
