Crazed Malaysian cop slits Thai lover's throat

Kuala Lumpur (dpa) - A Malaysian cop, suspended for disciplinary problems, allegedly attempted to murder his Thai girlfriend by slitting her throat before attempting to run her down with his car after being jilted for another man, a news report said Sunday.

The 23-year-old victim was asleep in her bed at home in the northern state of Terengganu when her throat was slit with a machete early Saturday.

Alerted by her screams, her housemate, also a Thai national, ran to her aid and rushed her to the roadside in a bid to get help when the suspect attempted to ram the duo with his vehicle.

The vehicle skidded off the road and the suspect fractured his right leg in the accident, the News Straits Times daily reported.

Passers-by rushed the victim to a nearby hospital where she was reported to be in stable condition.

State police chief Zamri Shamsuddin said the suspect, who sped off after the incident, was arrested in a town nearby on the same day and received treatment at the same hospital as the victim.

Zamri added that police have recovered a machete and drug paraphernalia at the suspect's home.

Police have placed the man, believed to be a drug addict, under remand to assist investigations and have classified the case as attempted murder.

If he has being doing drugs in Malaysia i think that the attempted murder is the least of his problems.

Cheers, Rick
