Travelling originally for total 30 days now 40 before flight to uk.

Have 30 day stamp, need to add 10 days

Visiting Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Samui and Phuket ETC

Searched web for hours still no clearer (latest advise go from Samui to Malasia, seems a bit extreme)

Advise of how, what and where would be fantastic.

You can not obtain more than a 7 day extension so to avoid overstay you need to depart Thailand and return for a new 30 day visa exempt entry so Malaysia would be an option.

the max, you can get on a 30 day visit from memory is 7 days and you should be able to get this at an immigration office click below for list

http://www.thaivisa.com/immigration_phone.0.html

now you might be able to overstay 3 days after that, and should not really get you into trouble you would pay a fine of 500 bhat a day 3 days 1500, plus your 7 day extention would be 1900 so say 3500 should cover it that way if deff needed.

the advice you are given ref malaysia is the expected way if you like and not a bad choice of the 2 if you are near a border.

one more thing some borders are asking for an onward journey tiket, and i havent been that border so cant help you but the cambodia side you can get around this with 200 bhat

top search box on this page type border run malaysia or similar and youll get lots of posts and tips etc

good luck

Thank you.

I keep reading of a 10 day extention.

Is this now out of date? 10 idays is now 7

Foreigners who come to Thailand normally will get a 30 days arrival visa in their passport. A 10 day extension can be done at immigration in Bangkok, but it will cost you 1,900 baht. This can almost ruin your day by queuing, traveling and handling all the paperwork with your passport at the Bangkok Immigration office. If you are willing to stay longer in Thailand, then you have to leave the country and return back again.

I'd think that if you're up in C. Mai say after day 10 of your trip, take one day's time and do a visa run over to Chieng Khong on the border and go over to Laos, turn around and come back for a new 30-day chop.  Then you're good for your 40 days.  Indeed, spend the night in Ban Houei Sai.  Not a lot going on but at least you could say you've been there.  Good restaurant down just above the river about 50-100 feet downstream, south, of the Lao Immigration landing.  Do think, tho, that there are tour companies in C. Mai who'll arrange the Visa Run as a day trip, get back to your C. Mai hotel in the evening.

Lao  visa on arrival $35.

Thanks for you help Chris.

The advise is actually for my son who is in Chiang Mai (travelled early from OZ, hense no planning for the extra 10 days) and I am freezing in the UK!

I have trawled through miles of information.

The 7 + 3 days fine may be an option but being a soft parent and after reading 'The Bangkok Hilton' I'm slightly worried!

Thanks Mac appriciated

Likely to be leaving CM with more than 30 days left in Thailand,an option may be to do this trip and then add on the 7 days.

As said previously the info is for my son (he's on a jolly with elephants!)

I will forward this to him

well, if its ya son and he came here early, he may go late, its a little bit better than the brouchures.

advice, leave him to sort his mess out its part of growing up!

on the other hand take thanyaburimac's advice

"do a visa run over to Chieng Khong on the border and go over to Laos, turn around and come back for a new 30-day chop"

seems the best choice, i day traveling sightseeing meeting people, into another country and back all legal and gives him a bit more in case time!

all the best

10 day extention looks unlikely

What is the best option for a 'run'

Bangkok

Samui

Phuket

All are being visited

+ do you have to get a visa or just obtain another 30 day stamp at border immigration point?
