Hi!

I'm totally green on this visa thing (and thoroughly confused :o ). You guys seem to know what you're talking about, so hope anyone can give me a little advice!

I am in BKK now, on a non-imm. single entry visa valid for 90 days. I entered the 2nd of June. I'm norwegian, 34 years old.

The purpose of my stay is to study, and I obtained the visa with papers form my school (it's a private school). I plan to follow courses until 1st of July next year (2009).

I have been told that I need to apply for a non-imm visa extension with multiple entries. But as I understand, if granted, this means I will be forced out of the country every 90 days. I will do that, if necessary, but it's a bit unpractical.

My question is this: Is there any other visa I can apply for that allows me to stay and study for one year, and also allows me to travel in and out of thailand when I want (not every 90 days)?

Thanks you guys :D

You should be able to apply for a one year extention, shortly before your non-o expires. requirements are:

7.8 In the case of enrollment in a private educational institution: Permission will be granted for a period as confirmed by the institution but shall not be more than 1 year at a time. </SPAN></FONT>(1) The alien has obtained a temporary visa (NON-IM); and

(2) The particular educational institution holds a license from the competent authority to operate; and

(3) Confirmation and request has been made by that particular institution; and

(4) That particular institution is accredited by the competent authority (except in the case of enrollment in an international school or university) </SPAN></FONT>1. Application form

2. Copy of the applicant's passport

3. Copy of the license to establish an educational institution issued by the competent authority

4. Confirmation letter and request has been made by that educational institution, giving in detail the number of years of study, the level/degree of education, and the academic performance of the applicant.

5. Certificate issued by a government agency at the level of department or equivalent or by Provincial Governor in charge of that particular institution (except in the case of enrollment in an international school or university) </SPAN></FONT>

What is more important is the school/study. From "private" I will guess it is one of the language type schools and that would not allow one year extensions of stay. But if language they have been offering 3 month extensions of stay from Immigration that do not require exit of the county (but a fee of 1,900 baht). If you want a multi entry visa that will require obtaining from a Consulate outside Thailand and leaving the country every 90 days.

The school is a private non-formal Vocational school called Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences. I'm taking their gemmology appraisal courses to be a gemmologist.

If it matters :o

It matters - as some schools can obtain one year extension of stay for there students but it is mostly the high level university schools and governmental signatures are often required. I am quite sure you will have to use multi entry 90 day stays unless they tell you otherwise.

Ok, thanks very much, Lopburi, I will check with the school what kind of status they have. Pooh, seems there will be an awful lot of travelling to do :o ...

I would not consider a border crossing every 90 days to be a great deal of travel - there are organized trips from Bangkok every day at a cost of about 2,000 baht by land. I you want you can fly to Singapore or other location for weekend shopping and return immediately or next day.

Yep, Lopburi. Could be a blessing too, think I will opt for the flying out somewhere alternative (then you get something else than bumping on a bus all day in return for those baht.

But what I meant was that it will probably seldom fit into my tight scedual of lectures, which means I will loose out (or have to shorten my 90 day periods which will be a problem in the end) and besides, it is going to cost a hel_l of a lot of money.

Anyway, I will soon be back with more questions cause now I'm off to investigate :o

Thanks for the help, have a nice day everybody!

:D K
