The ads allow the site owner to raise money that covers the costs of running a dedicated server and the bandwidth needed to deliver millions of page views to us every month for free.

I'd rather have the ads, which are Thailand related and sometimes useful, than a monthly bill for a forum without ads!

Look at this, only 2 lines of text (red ellipse), the rest is all ads.

I would have thought it was the "add reply" button that you have found difficulty in finding (20 posts in three+ years).

As has been said the advertisements provide revenue which enable this site to operate and provides almost 60,000 members with the best information and recreational topics that you could find in Asia.

It's a business, not a charity. The ads are what make it possible. If you don't like them, learn to ignore them.

Yeah we can try to but just look at the OP's photo, it's getting silly :o

The ads don't bother me (even if the Asian Friend Finder girls seem pretty sleazy, changing names and locations everytime I log on !) :D

I've even helped support a couple of the advertisers (and am just about to throw a wad of cash at another one in a few minutes).

It could be worse. I hate those "roll-over" ads that take up half the screen, and if they pop up just as you are clicking your mouse, you end up getting redirected to that site. :o

Besides, all those ads help george & company throw big parties for us now and then !

What more can you ask from a site that's free to use ! :D

Ads are a relatively new phenomenon on a board such as this, which is basically a descendant of the old UseNet bulletin boards.

Personally I use certain tools to improve my browsing experience, and I think it is naive to presume that without ad revenue internet bulletin boards will all automatically disappear. The boards came before the ads, not vice versa.

Ah, so you mean the "beta testing" mentioned by George here has been completed then? I must have missed the announcement, when did it happen? When and where is the next Platinum Members meetup? What's in the Platinum Lounge Forum? Can we get the nice old blue skin back if we sign up for this premium service?

Yes, I remember the days of BBS's as well, and ran a small one myself for awhile.

But that was back in the day when it was run off my computer, and my phone line. Didn't need gigabytes of storage for huge databases. Only one person could log into the BBS at a time (unless you went out and bought more modems and stuff).

Back then, a friend of mine was running a really big BBS, 12 modems ! But the system he was using required a different computer for each feature (i.e. one for chat, another for games, another for picture/file storage, ect).

Of course, he had to charge a membership fee to pay for all that, because there weren't any ad revenues back then.

Nowadays it's (obviously) a lot more complicated. Servers, back-up servers, databases, back-ups of databases, hosts, 58,000+ users (that by itself requires a lot of Admin work I imagine. Not sure how many can be on at the same time, but the record so far is just over 12,000.)

Who's going to pay for it ?

In this day and age, a board would have to be offering something very special and unique, to be able to run on membership fees and no ads. How many boards like that are there out there ? Not many, as most people would simply surf away to a similar site that was free (but maybe had ads on it).

Looking at the screenshot of TV without ads, I'd almost rather have the ads ! :o

Perhaps if someone in Admin were to start a poll with potential dates/locations ? :o

Of course, we little folk would certainly appreciate a PissUp once a month, but that may be a little unrealistic ! :D

The incident occurred on the evening of September 27, prompting her to file a complaint at the Pratunam Chulalongkorn Police Station. According to Khunlin, she brought her sister to the Pathumthani Hospital on September 23 for treatment of food aspiration and paralysis, along with memory issues. On September 27, hospital staff informed her that Amphon was ready to be discharged. Due to her own struggles with depression and age-related limitations, Khunlin requested that her sister's three children come to take her home. However, when Khunlin visited the hospital the following morning with care packages for Amphon, she discovered that her sister had already been taken away by someone claiming to be her son. Alarmed, Khunlin contacted her sister’s relatives and learned that no one had come to pick her up. Upon reviewing the hospital's surveillance footage, it was revealed that a man, who did not resemble any family member, had taken Amphon in a taxi, raising concerns for her safety. The footage shows a man with dark skin and a shaved head lifting Amphon into a taxi before driving away. Khunlin expressed her disbelief that hospital staff would allow her sister to leave with someone who was not family, considering she had been the one to bring Amphon in for care. “I’m extremely worried. My sister is elderly and has multiple health issues. I urge the authorities to help bring her back,” Khunlin pleaded. In response, Pol. Lt. Col. Wichaya Phankham, head of the police station’s investigation unit, has initiated an inquiry and is coordinating with the hospital to review the footage and locate the taxi driver who picked up Amphon. She was later taken to the hospital for evaluation before being safely escorted back to her home in Chom Bueng district. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the woman was suffering from depression and several chronic illnesses. Financial pressures, including medical costs that her family had been helping with, had caused her to feel like a burden. In a moment of despair, she attempted to end her life but was saved in time by the officers’ quick response. Pol. Lt. Gen. Prachuap praised the two officers for embodying the principles of the Royal Thai Police, stating, "Their rapid response and dedication to saving this woman's life is a shining example of what it means to be a protector of peace."       One needs to look at why men end their marriages and IMO it's because the women stop having sex. IMO men don't have affairs because the new woman is better, but because the new woman actually has sex. I'd never have left my first partner if she hadn't turned our relationship into a no sex zone. More fool her. The next guy ( it was a miracle, but her sex drive returned when she needed to trap another man ) lasted even less time than I when she tried the same BS on him.

      Police Lieutenant Rewat Abdin, Deputy Inspector of Bang Nam Priao Police Station, responded to an incident on September 27, involving the death of a woman due to carbon monoxide poisoning inside a vehicle. The woman, identified as 38-year-old Ms. Phaknan Bamrungphuet from Prachinburi, was discovered unconscious in her Ford Ranger parked along a road near Wat Bang Sai in Chachoengsao. Despite efforts to resuscitate her, she passed away after being rushed to Bang Nam Priao Hospital. The scene revealed the woman’s pickup truck parked by the roadside with a charcoal stove found overturned beside it. People pulled her body from the vehicle and attempted CPR before taking her to the hospital. Her safety shoes were also found nearby. A local resident, Mr. Kit Phokin, 46, a former village headman, was the first to attempt CPR. He stated that he had noticed the truck parked with its window rolled down earlier in the afternoon and assumed the driver was making a phone call. When he returned in the evening, the vehicle was still there. A local resident alerted him that someone was unconscious in the car. He immediately assisted in pulling Ms. Phaknan from the vehicle but noted that she showed no signs of life. According to initial police investigations, Ms. Phaknan had left Prachinburi earlier that day and contacted her relatives before sharing her location. By the time they arrived, however, it was too late. Investigators suspect that her death was linked to a dispute with her partner, though other potential factors, such as financial or health issues, have not been ruled out. Authorities will conduct further inquiries with her family to clarify the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.
