Importing Knives To Thailand

Featured Replies

I'd like to order a particular dive knife from Amazon, which is not available locally. Just wondering if anyone knows if customs will pull me up for importing a knife via mail order. Are there any legal problems? Its a fairly small, double edged blade (Kershaw Amphibian).

Thanks.

It is legal for sure but you will pay duty on the stainless steel it is, but make sure you do declare what it is & you " should " be ok..

A poster in another topic stated that knives are considered weapons and are prohibited from importation. Anyone know the regulations on this?

I had a sheathed dive knife sent over by post about 9 years ago along with other dive equipment. The parcel was opened to checked contents and assess duty!! Even though 20k Baht was asked for I got it in without eventually paying anything as it wasn't new :o No comment was made about the knife so I'm guessing you'll have no problem either but TIT.

I imagine that certain kinds of knives would qualify as 'weapons' but I have no idea what the local regulations are. Anyone know for sure?

What about automatic or spring loaded knives, Commonly known as switchblades?

I think you'd be pushing your luck with those :o but you can get that sort of thing locally (although the steel might suck).

Just to follow up, my dive knife arrived today. The package had clearly been opened by customs (they didn't put it back in the box), but it made it through unmolested and without charging me any 'tax'. I suppose it wasn't worth enough for them to be bothered.

Thanks for the update. I have some I would like to have sent here, mostly like small pocket knives.
