Don't forget for marriage visa you can use both money in the bank and income from abroad.

example:

THB. 200,000 in the bank and and yearly income of THB 280,000 will suffice.

or THB 100,000 in bank and THB 380,000 income,

As long as both come to THB 480,000 i.e. - THB 40,000 x 12 months = THB 480,000

I do not think that is correct.

According to the police order 606/2549.

If he does not have the family income he / they must have 400,000 in the bank.

For those Grandfathered.

Hi Lite Beer,

Its quite correct, I used to show THB 200,000 until the amount changed I now have a choice:

show THB 400,000 in bank, show THB 40,000 a month or a combination of. Forget the grandfathering there is no such thing anymore. At the moment I show pension and a small amount in bank.

Anyone marrying a Thai now and wants to live in Thailand will have the same choice.

Also as of this month Thailand is starting to implement that you go to your local immigration to renew your visa.

Do you have more details on these statements?

I believe he is saying the rule now is 40k so if you marry now that is your only option for family extension of stay.

As for the do the process at your local office there have been several reports within the last month or so of people being told this at Bangkok.

As regards the 400K in the bank, I am grandfathered under this and I'm in the process of extending for another year. I was asked last week in the Kanchanaburi office to provide additional documentation to prove the foreign transfers into my account over the last 3 months originated from overseas. Have not been asked this before so had to get printouts from my Thai bank to show the transfer of GBP, I also provided copies of the receipts provided from my UK bank for each transaction. Is this new or has anyone else heard of this?

This is frequently asked for if old or not indicated in bank code - usually they can see the transfers in the bank passbook and don't ask.

The law actually says that the 400,000 in the bank can be either or both parties. Ie. You or your Wife. No mention of where the money came from.

Indeed if it was your Wifes Bank Account the funds would not be from abroad.

I do not know where you get your extensions but that is not the rule.

Everyone in the system before October 2006 are grandfathered and will continue to be the way things stand at the moment.

Probably a stupid question--but, what does 'Grandfathered' mean?
