How To Say Superficial

Featured Replies

I had a conversation with my wife about cars, gas guzzlers v. economy cars, and I wanted to say her opinion was shallow/superficial/not thoughtful.

Does "peurm peurm" work for that? Or do I need to reword it in a whole other way? Sorry, can't type in Thai.

I've wanted to say this a few other times and the dictionary translation drew blanks.

oops, I meant "peurn peurn"

I wanted to say her opinion was shallow/superficial/not thoughtful.

Do you have a death wish. :o

ตื้นๆ or dteun dteun might be more correct but will see what others say. Don't know if there are subtle or obvious differences between the two.

ไม่ลึกซึ้ง - mai leuk seung

ฉาบฉวย - chaap chuay

สมองกลวง (samong gluang) or สมองทึบ (samong teup)

These 2 words are serious, insulting words, you might end up sleeping on the couch forever :o .

I will add Tywais - ตื้นๆ to คิดตื้นๆ - kit dteun dteun.

เธอคิดตื้นๆ ช่วยคิดให้ลึกซึ้งหน่อย

Dter kit dteun dteun, chuay kit hai leuk seung noi

I'd suggest ผิวเผิน.

You can use it like เธอก็รู้ ฉันไม่ใช่คนผิวเผินยังงั้นหรอก "You know I'm not superficial like that."

Or เขาสนใจแต่เรื่องผิวเผิน or เขาคิดแต่เรื่องผิวเผิน "(S)he's only interested in superficial things."

Or การเมืองไทยเป็นเพียงเรื่องผิวเผิน "Thai politics is superficial"

It may not have quite the negative connotation as English "superficial" does, though. I'm not certain. I need to think about it a little more ลึกซึ้ง. :o

I think you may use :

"It's not that simple!" = "ไม่ ง่าย อย่างงั้น หรอก" : mai - gnai - ang - gnan - rok

The direct word you want is : think shallow : คิด ตื้น ตื้น : kid - tuen - tuen.

Or "too simple thinking" : คิด ง่าย ง่าย : kid - gnai - gnai.

I hope this could help.

Thanks for those replies. It's good to have various ways to put it, as I'm often not understood the first time, or first way, I say something.

Hopefully, I won't need them for a while :o .
