Are there any Thai - Spanish married couples on TV who can help a Thai friend and here boyfriend with info about what documents required from both parties for marriage and where to start the paper mill.

(Boyfriend located in Spain but will come here later this year. He do not speak very well English and nil Thai.)

Any information greatly welcome.

Thanks & Regards

suggest he calls his own embassy in bangkok & asks them what he needs to legally marry in thailand.

For most countries, the person from that country must sign a document, produced by their embassy, stating that they are free to marry (never married, divorced, widowed etc) but if they are any but never married, must also produce proof , so divorce paper or death certificate of previous spouce.

Once they have this document, they have to get is translated into Thai then taked to the Ministry of foreign affairs in bangkok to be approved. With this approval they are then free to marry at any amphur in thailand.

So tell him to call the Spanish embassy in Bangkok to find out.

there is no requirement if she has never been married, it is he, as the foreigner, who must satisfy the thai authorities. I presume she would need to do something similar if they were marrying in his country bt as this is thailand her records would be on file.

But at the amphur she will be asked if she is free to marry (as my never before husband was). But if she is divorced/widow then again, she must bring along relevant documents to prove she is no longer bound by another marriage.

Hmmm must be great convo(s) between those two

As you sure know Britmaveric, conversation is not a priority at that stage. :o

BTW, they seemed to get by very well last time he was here. Love have no barriers. Paper mills can have.

:D
