MS DNS patch snuffs net connection for ZoneAlarm users

Personally, I'm not a tech person, but after having my settings on Zone Alarm changed from high to medium, I can now access the internet. It was just luck on my part, I figured it out.

This is the critical patch for DNS services. The workaround presently as noted is to set Zone Alarm to medium not high for internet connectivity.

Oddly this doesn't seem to affect all users.

So that's what happened to my Connection.... I did a "Restore" and got it back.... Now I know to avoid that Patch until they work out the kinks.

Thanks,

I downloaded a new patch from ZoneAlarm.

http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/pre...ccessIssue.html

After reboot, managed to return settings from medium to high, and accessed the internet, no problem.

I ditched Zone Alarm a few years ago - can't remember the exact problem. Now using Comodo.

I had a problem last night and today. After being on the phone to ISP i finally got my internet connection working again. i Had to disable ZA. Currently have the built in firewall running.

Have you read post #4? There seems to have been a patch issued.

It is better to go to the Zone Alarm site LINK and access the patches {hint big yellow box} for the product you are using, the Windows DNS patch is important and should not be dismissed so lightly.

In most cases setting ZA to medium not high for Internet will provide a temporary cure.

Sorted now.

Will this affect secure pages (https) even though http pages are working fine?

Now I know to avoid that Patch until they work out the kinks.

I would avoid Zone Alarm -- not the patch. (Just a personal observation.)
