Acer Desktop Computers

Featured Replies

Being a bit of an IT novice can anyone tell me if the range of Acer desktops are compatible with Windows XP or not since I do not want Vista installed. I am particularly interested in the model Aspire M3641.

I'm 99.999% sure they will run XP just fine.

And mine.

It may become harder very soon, if not already, to buy a new PC with a legal copy of XP installed. Microsoft is pushing hard if not forcing retailers globally now to use Vista rather than XP. http://weblog.infoworld.com/save-xp/

There are of course other legal and illegal ways to get XP, but it would be a bummer to be forced to buy Vista, as it really is still not up to scratch, and far from stable. Very basic and very widely publicised flaws have not been resolved, and MS has had more than enough time to do this.

I'm not a Linux fanboy, nor particularly anti-Microsoft overall, but Vista is just so disappointing and frustrating even for IT literate people like myself. I cannot recommend strongly enough against wasting your time with Vista. For now anyway.
