Kratom Leaves : Drug ?

Featured Replies

Hey ! yesterday, I was driving to bangkok, from Samui, and stoped in Ranong for a border cross - yep I know, long drive, I'm still exhausted -. Somewhere near the burmese border, I stoped to buy some redbull, to keep me awake... I told the guy I was tired, and going to bangkok, he laughed, and gave my several leaves. Told me to chew them. At first I thought it was some coca leaves, even tho I didn't know they grew coca in SEA.

As I'm very polite, I thanked the guy cheerfully, and threw them leaves out the window. I'm not real fond on drugs, and also the place crawls with military offs searching for clandestines.

When I arrived in Bkk, I googled "thai coca leaves" and found something that looks exactly like what he gave me. Kratom. I wanted to know - cause I 'm curous - Is it a forbided drug here ? I've read the effects were similar to coca and opium combined.

Anyway, I think I was right to stick with the redbull... lol

I'm told by Thai friends that they're illegal, but they do seem to be widely collected. I'm also told they don't taste too good, but not too bad either. Apparently they make your mouth numb but if you persevere you do get a bit of a buzz, but not much. Supposedly better than Red Bull (well, they don't contain cow sick for one thing).

Well, I dont like to taste of redbull either ! Especially here ! Everywhere else, they sell it in a can, and it sparkles... here it's just a candy smelling cough syrup. But I sure does keep me awake ! lol

Discussion of illegal activities including drugs is not allowed on the forum so I will have to close this topic.
