A goal either side of halftime by Sanaras would you believe was enough to take the points though Kilmarnock made the faithful sweat with an 87 th minute reply. Just saw the goals on Sky Sports. Ist goal a header from close range and the 2nd an emphatic finish from close range. So we head into Wednesday's Old Firm clash in a far better position than seemed likely two months ago. There have been many away victories in the last few seasons in Old Firm games and Rangers will be formidable opposition. Hopefully our guys will be up for it. An early morning for you CB? salty Posted December 28, 2011 Share Posted December 28, 2011 Celtic 1 Rangers 0 A 52nd minute goal by Joe Ledley was enough to give Celtic victory tonight and send them to the top of the SPL. The strong wind made conditions difficult. Celtic had more 1st half possession and created little. Samaras netted after McGregor spilled a Hooper shot but was plainly offside. By contrast Celtic got a huge break after 6 minutes. Wallace headed a cross against the inside of the near post. Forrest managed to claw it away but subsequent replays showed that the ball had just crossed the line. As the officials were not in a position to see Celtic survived. Jelavic headed a corner goalwards and Bocangera scooped it over the bar. Celtic began the 2nd half in more forceful mood and Forrest finished a jinking run with a dangerous shot which McGregor tipped over. From the corner Ledley headed Celtic into the lead. Celtic bossed it for the next 20 minutes and Hooper was wrongly flagged offside when through on McGregor. But with Samaras fading and Kayal gone off injured Celtic were being forced back in the latter stages. Rogne and Mulgrew were solid and Rangers failed to make any decent chances . The lead goal in the 18th minute scored by Stokes was the pick of the bunch. Picking up a headed clearance at the edge of the box he curled a superb effort into the opposite top corner. A well delivered Mulgrew free kick in the 40th minute was side footed home by Wanyama who availed of ball watching by the home defence. In control at half time it has to be said the 2nd half was like watching paint dry. Mulgrew scored from a free kick with 20 minutes to go. Despite the ball being in the centre of the goal it beat the keeper who was a few yards off his line. The only other item of note was Izaguirre coming on as a sub after 78 minutes for his first appearance since August due to a lengthy injury. SuperGers Posted January 8, 2012 Share Posted January 8, 2012 Very poor run of form and the loss of Naismith has hit us badly. In reality the gap was only ever 9 points but still a significant lead to concede. Our best chance is to try to keep it tight (say within 3/4 points) until the last 4 or 6 weeks when it becomes "squeeky bum " time. We've seen the wheels come off Celtic's wagon too many times in the recent past to concede the title in January. If Rangers fall 8+ points behind i think this season's over. Having raced into a 2 goal lead through Hooper and Wanyama DU got one back after HT through a long range goal from Rankin. He has done this to us before in his Easter Road days. salty Posted January 21, 2012 Share Posted January 21, 2012 St Mirren 0 Celtic 2 Celtic made it 12 in a row with a 2-0 win in the early game today. It was far from an impressive performance and St Mirren with far less possession had far more attempts on goal. Fortunately Forster was at his best and made a number of excellent stops to keep our goal intact. By comparison the St Mirren goalie had very little to do especially in the first half apart from a very good save from a 30 yard volley by our £35million man. That apart Celtic created nothing. St Mirren made an aggresive start to the 2nd half and it began to look ominous as shots were raining in on the Celtic goal. Lenny had seen enough and after 58 minutes a double substitution saw Stokes and Commons on for Samaras and Ki. Good to see Commons back. Hopefully his injury problems are behind him and he will be as influential as last season at this time. Celtic began to look a bit more menacing although St Mirren were still giving it everything. In the 71st minute Celtic went ahead from their 2nd attempt on target. A Commons free kick came back to Brown who cushioned it superbly for Forrest to place a shot just inside the post. The goalie who had very little to do compared to Forster was beaten. Celtic began to get some control although ths Saints were still menacing. In the 87th minute Commons took a short corner to Brown at the edge of the area. He took a touch and then curled a measured shot into the far corner which was very similar to his equaliser last season at Ibrox in the drawn cup tie. Celtic nearly had a 3rd but Rogne's header was disallowed for offside. Even better news later on when Rangers were held to a draw at Ibrox so our lead is now 4 points. Dreadful decision by the linesman. Overall Celtic were poor I thought and Falkirk were full of fight. A double save by Forster with 12 minutes to go kept us in front .
