GuestHouse
A few weeks ago I posted on the subject of Fair Pensions for people holding UK Pension Rights who have moved abroad. I also mentioned I had written to the UK Opposition Parties. Well I've had a response from the Tories... You can make this happen by writing to the UK Government and Opposition to express your views. Dear Mr ****,I am replying on behalf of David Cameron to thank you for your e-mail, about expatriates with frozen pensions. We understand your concern that, despite having paid National Insurance contributions, you are not receiving the full up-rated value of the State Pension. This affects approximately 500,000 pensioners resident in a large number of countries, but the greatest numbers are in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Government Ministers have refused to initiate negotiations with those countries with whom we currently have no reciprocal arrangements. Conservatives have previously questioned the Government on the issue. Nigel Waterson MP, Shadow Pensions Minister, has tabled Parliamentary Questions on the subject and raised the matter with Ministers during the Commons passage of the Pensions Act 2007. This issue will be considered as part of the Conservatives' policy review process prior to the next Election, and I will ensure that your views are noted. Thank you, once again, for writing. Yours sincerely, Lara Moreno Perez Office of the Leader of the Opposition House of Commons London SW1A 0AA
yabaaaa
It seems to me these days in the UK many companies and govt bodies etc. are just going through the motions of appearing to do something whilst actually doing nothing. How does this relate to Thailand? well at least here they often dont go through the motions at all. In many ways there really is no difference between the two countries regarding the outcome these days.
JetsetBkk
...Government Ministers have refused to initiate negotiations with those countries with whom we currently have no reciprocal arrangements... The "reciprocal arrangements" issue has absolutely nothing to do with it and is simply an obfuscation. http://www.britishpensions.org.au/frozen_pension_myths.htm

PhilHarries
More hot air from politicians seeking YOUR vote. Yabaaa, you are correct In many ways there really is no difference between the two countries regarding the outcome these days. In Thailand they buy your votes with Baht, in the UK (and many other countries) they buy them with empty promises and hollow platitudes. thaimate, I think you have the right idea. Anyway, well done GH I suppose we should keep prodding however futile it may be.
crocodile
keep an address in britain,i know many who do this ,in fact most of the people i come across do it. BUT If, when you claim your pension and say you live in the UK when you in fact live in Thailand, or elsewhere, then that is theft, fraud and a crime for which the British Authorities can put you in the nick. And you would deserve it.
