I am half way through my 12 month multi-entry visa. I now want to live and work here. What are my options for changing to a non immigrant visa and getting a work permit. Do I need to wait until my current visa expires? do I then have to leave the country for a few months?

I have found it quite hard to get any information on these issues.

You have to find a job and obtain a work permit for it. There is no visa change required.
