Odd Ip Things Happening.

Featured Replies

When I was on ipstar, the advert for Asia Friend Finder always told me that I was in Bangkok, so did the 'Show IP' link at the top of the page .... that came as no surprise as I expect all ipstar traffic is routed through servers in BKK.

Since I switched over to TOT ADSL around six weeks ago, the advert switches between Bangkok and Buriram most of the time, but now it tells me that I am in Surin. Plus the 'Show IP' indicates now that I am in Brisbane and it has occasionally told me that I am in Los Angeles.

This doesn't overly concern me as long as the line stays active, I'm just curious if anyone can explain why it's happening.

(and does it make a complete mockery of the new CCA legislation?)

This is getting silly, now 'Show IP' tells me I am in Frankfurt and the FriendFinder says Mountain View, wherever the heck that is.

Perhaps you are using unknowingly a proxy server?

All your posts are marked the same in this thread and www.ip-adress.com puts you in Surin. When you get other indications it is often due to fact blocks of IP are rented from other providers and data is not updated on a timely manner. Plus all Thailand IP used to locate to Bangkok only as hqs were there. Plus some IP locaters seem more equal than others.

Thanks Lop ...... Where am I now?

I recently added the Google Web Accelerator, if I turn it off I am back in Bangkok (for the moment) when it is on (as it is at the moment) I'm in Mountain View again, which I have discovered is in California.

I can now see how some locators can get confused if they are working with IP lease info that may not be up to date, thanks for explaining that .... and that makes my second question even more relevant doesn't it (the one in parenthesis) all that tracking info that ISPs are now required to keep by law is pretty much useless isn't it.

That post was from TOT Bangkok as below. I suspect TOT has a few specific numbers permantly assigned to the Surin node now and your previous posts were from one of them. When they are full you revert to a general reserve group and can only be located to the Bangkok hqs.
