I am working on a project to play music video clips ,which are stored on an external hard disk and played through a media player on my note book, on my large screen TV

The best media player I have found is Winamp, but whatever media player I use, I can’t work out how to view the media player on the note book at the same time as the clip is showing on the TV. I want to do this so that I can choose new play lists, at the same time as the clips are playing.

I have seen computers in bars that provide this facility but have no idea how it is done. Whatever is shown on my note book screen is replicated on the TV screen.

Anyone have any idea how it is done?

Thanks :o

After re-reading your post, I am uncertain merely setting up the dualview monitor configuration will achieve the results you are looking for. After inputting port winamp to second monitor in Google, I found some more info that may assist you. What follows are settings for WinAmp that will display lyrics for karaoke songs on a separate monitor from where the actual WinAmp player is displayed. It may or may not be what you're looking for.

After your monitors are set up you'll need to configure the mp3+g plugin in WinAmp following these steps.

Vista media center specifically has this option to run a 'control monitor'.. This is to embed touchscreen like devices to be the control interface to the display.

Secondly you could use J River Media center and 2 machines to have one machine as the display and a secondary machine using the network remote control feature to control the primary display machine via a TCP network connection and the built in web control applet.

If you want to get really deep into the topic, there applications like the CQC (charmed quark controller) built for home automation purposes.. Thats much higher technical level than your probably looking at tho, almost as hard as crestron setup but can do an amazing amount considering its costs.

Ohh when I say second machine.. That doesnt need to be a PC.. You could be using a PDA to connect wirelessly to the MCE box and command and control it.. So the PDA kind of acts like a wifi remote control with 2 way data exchange.

If you're using a vga cable to connect to your tv, you can use the FN key (or equivalent) to toggle the display. On mine if I hit it twice both tv and laptop display same thing. However with this anything done on laptop shows up on tv messing up your viewing. Not ideal.

I would recommend going to your display settings and "extend desktop" onto your tv (works with vga/s-vid/hdmi). Then download Bento Classified from http://forums.winamp.com/attachment.php?s=...;postid=2257706 into your skins and enable it. This skin allows undocking for your winamp modules.

Start your playback, drag it over to the tv, size it to your liking and keep the other controls on your laptop for the equalizer, playlists, etc. Mess with it as you see fit.

Just to clarify; I want to display the Winamp media library on my laptop, whilst watching a video clip on the TV.

Thanks for all the suggestions. :o

I will now work my through them and let you know how I get on.

Success!!! :o:D

I set up the lap top as the primary monitor with the TV as the secondary.

Changed the skin to winamp classic, which gives separate windows for the control panel and EQ, the media library, the play list and the video screen.

Then I dragged the video screen to the TV and maximised it.

Hey Presto - all my controls and song lists on the lap top, and the video clip playing on the TV.

Thanks guys :D
