Farinelli
I am a swedish citizen. I will arrive in BKK the 28th of December, I stay 1 week in Thailand. I go to Cambodia and Laos where I stay until the 11th of February. In Vientiane I will try to get a 2 months tourist visa, which I extend 1 month in Chiang Mai. I fly back to Sweden the 9th of May. Will the first week I stay in Thailand affect my chances to get a 2+1 month tourist visa?

Mario2008
No problems regarding your visa, but if you might have trouble with the airline. You need to show that you will leave the country within 30 days or show a visa for your stay if it is longer than 30 days. You say that you will leave Thailand within 1 week and later come back to Thailand and arrange for the proper visa. The airline will asume that you will go to Thailand for the whole duration of your trip and will want you to show a visa. Unless you can proof that you will travel unwards to Laos and Cambodia, they might not let you board the plane. I can buy an Airasia e-ticket BKK- Phnom Penh valid the 3rd of January before I leave Sweden. Will that be proof enough for the airline?
lopburi3
Yes that should be fine - but if you just have return tickets I doubt airline will check that it is within 30 days (as there is no such rule mentioned on there computers - the only retirement is travel tickets to an onward destination that you have visa or free entry for). National SWEDEN (SE) /Destination THAILAND (TH) THAILAND (TH) Passport required, which must be valid at least 6 months and in good condition. 1. If travelling for touristic purposes: visa not required for a max. stay of 30 days. Extension possible. Fee THB 1,900.- (1 photo required). Note: there is a max. limit of a total of 90 days stay within any 6 month period. Return/onward ticket is required. 2. In all other cases: visa required. Travel on one-way ticket is permitted. Visas issued by the Thai Consulate in Amman, Jordan (now closed) will only be honoured when issued to nationals of Jordan. Visas issued to any national by the Thai Embassy in Amman, Jordan, will be honoured. If holding APEC Business Travel Card (clearly stating on the reverse that it is valid for travel to Thailand): visa not required, for a max. stay of 90 days, provided APEC card is accompanied by passport and, in the case of being a resident of Hong Kong, a Hong Kong Permanent Resident Identity Card. Visitor must hold all documents for next destination. If being over 12 years old, visitor must also hold sufficient funds to cover stay (at least THB 20,000.- approx. USD 640.- per person/family). Proof of funds includes letter of credit, vouchers, MCO's or well-known credit cards (not applicable if holding re-entry visa). Non-compliance with the visa regulations will result in: - refusal and immediate deportation of passenger; - fines for the airline of THB 20,000,-; - overstay fine for passenger of THB 500,- per day (but not exceeding in total THB 20,000.-).
