Cheapest Option

I have been searching here and I see several topics that address the issue (but not answer my questions). I was wondering, what is the cheapest option as far as getting an airline ticket and doing a visa run for the 2+1 visa? Is there a place where they are refundable without too much of a fee? Will I need to get one for 2 months from now or 3? I need to go soon and am sorry in advance for what may be a stupid post. Is there another Jack Golf type deal (no longer an option) around where you don't need the ticket? Is there a near by country where I don't need the return ticket? Will overstaying affect my chances of getting the visa? Sorry, again and thanks in advance. Oh and BTW I am American and have been here a year and a half. I was a teacher until 3 months ago (and had a work visa) now I have done my 3 trips to Cambiodia and thought I was going to Lao until Monday.

Yes I have read some of the threads on here, but none of them (that I have found) are within the last two weeks (sorry if I missed one maybe, things get very convoluted in some of these posts). So my question becomes, are you sure about this? I was booked a couple weeks ago to go Monday with JTG but then they told me that Thais wanted return tickets so they had stopped the tours. It was a bummer for me as I stupidly didn't call and make sure they were still doing it before Monday when I was supposed to leave.

I never had a problem and don't want and can not afford to have one now, so I am kind of leary to just get up and go. BTW thanks for your reply

As I read the post the Consulate in Savannakhet wanted return tickets to issue the visa - not Immigration to return into Thailand. Most likely because they do not want a return of visa service groups using there Consulates limited facilities. Vientiane has never made such a request and is where almost all people go to obtain tourist visa currently (and two entry is normally available if requested).

No didn't see it until after lopburi posted, for some reason I never used the word Vientiane in my search before that. Wow it was a long thread! 23 pages! I think I have to fly as I can't go until Wednesday morning. I understand buses get pulled over and passports checked, It is a good thing I read that. I fprgot that fact, damm, this is going to be more expensive than I thought. Frigging Jacks Off tours I pretty pissed they never called me back and let me know that they couldn't do it anymore. I called about 2 and a half weeks before and made my reservation. Then when I went on Monday they just were not there and they still have the poster for it in thier front window as well, so I thought I was good to go until no one showed up.

Peckers, I am not using them for anything again.
