Hey,

Just got myself a new Asus 1000H and am trying to connect it up with my Nokia E71 for mobile internet with AIS. Pretty straightforward if you know how I guess - problem is, I don't know how.

Have already got he requisite Internet package with AIS just stumbling forlornly over the connection process.

Any takers?

It depends; are you running Windows or Linux on your 1000H?
If it's Windows, bust out the CD that came with your phone and install the suite. It already should have the settings for an AIS in the suite. At least the cd/suite that came with the N70 does.....YMMV.
If it's Linux, it's a bit more configuring, but it should be easy.
1) Plug the data cable into the phone and into your running computer.
2) Open a terminal and type in dmesg | tail.
3) There should be a message stating that your phone is connected as ACM0 or so.
4) Open either gnome-ppp or kppp.
5) User name and password can be anything since AIS gets that information from your sim card.
6) You need to add a modem (click on 'Configure') as /dev/ttyACM0.
7) You also need to change your modem init strings. Click on the modem tab; go to modem commands and use this example.
7) Number to dial is *99#.

Opening a terminal in Easy Mode

Simply press the CTRL, ALT and T keys on your keyboard all at the same time. The default terminal program in Easy mode is named lxterm.

Opening a terminal with the standard EeePC interface

Open the Work tab, start the File Manager than click Tools menu, Open Console Window. This will launch the Konsole program.

Opening a terminal in KDE Mode (Advanced Mode)

Click on the Kicker icon in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen (where your Start Menu would be in Windows) and navigate to Applications → System → Console (KDE Desktop)

Mapping Ctl+Alt+t to launch Konsole in Advanced Mode

Click on the Kicker icon in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen (where your Start Menu would be in Windows) and navigate to Control Centre → Control Centre, and select General Settings → Key Assignments.

Select the middle tab in Keyboard Shortcuts, called Command Shortcuts, and navigate to Applications → System → Console through the tree menu, and map Ctl+Alt+t.

Stolen from here.

Thanks for the reply...

XP home is installed on the Asus. Since posting yesterday, I can make a inet connection with the data cable plugged from the phone to the com no problem. The issue I have is "authorising" my phone through the Nokia PcSuite. Here is what I'm doing:

1. Turn Bluetooth to visible on my phone.

2. Open Nokia PC suite.

3. Click "click here to add a phone" (opens Get Connected wizard)

4. Select Bluetooth connection

5. My phone is found ("phone needs to be authorised" shows on right of screen)

6. Click next and receive message - "Cannot authenticate phone"

???

I have tried doing it the other way around - pairing the devices from the phone end and then running PC suite and following the same procedures, but with the same result? Testing me as the reason I bought this was for this specific purpose as I don't want to carry cables about.

Any help MUCH appreciated.

Thanks. :o

Now got myself into a right mess. Tried to follow instructions via thread found on google addressing my problem, but after unistalling WIDCOMM everything went pear shaped. So reinstalled WIDCOMM with the Asus support disc, but now I've got no connectivity for anything. My Bluetooth Places finds nothing...Gone from bad to worse :o
