I will be moving from Bangkok to Khon Kaen next month. While I don't have any big furniture to move, I don;t believe my belongings will fit in one of those local pickup movers (unless it is one with the very high cab). All I can find as an alternative are the regular moving companies who want minimum 20,000 baht.

Does anyone know of any smaller companies or individuals with the small vans?

The trucks you see parked on side sois offer that service. You rent the truck/driver and any helpers. The trucks have large cloth signs on the side and a phone number (although the driver may actually be close by). In Lat Phao I normally see a few parked on Soi 71 of Latphao Road but you will find them at various locations in the city - expect most taxi drivers will know closest location.

If those guys put a sign on their truck in English, I would think they'd get a lot more work.

Just one word would do it. "REMOVALS"

Good tip, Lop. :o

The only ones I see are too small :o

I know I can't help you at the moment but that is one of the reasons I started building trailers in Thailand.

I know an excellent, cheap, trustworthy and reliable Thai mover that uses the small high trucks in Bangkok to then transfer to larger trucks for long haul journeys. Not sure if they go to Khon Kaen, and they charge by the piece and weight. Better to do all the packing and wrapping by yourself. Much cheaper than a "removal" or moving company per se. I recently paid 15,000 Baht to move a one bedroom that involved two of those high cube pickups full, including a huge (by Thai standards) refrigerator, and heavy furniture.

You need to speak good Thai or have your Thai partner or friend arrange it:

Was your move within Bangkok? If so, 15,000 seems rather expensive!

No, sorry, it was from Bangkok to Phuket, so very reasonable.
