I think at the last count Thai police have blocked 30,000 web sites,do a search on here, there is a list somewhere

If you are unfamiliar to using proxies try this for the short term:

http://wheel.compose.cs.cmu.edu:8001/cgi-bin/browse/objweb

Just enter in your desired web site where it says "Convert a URL"

Alternatively you could try going to Yahoo, google etc and connecting through them. Google will give you a large number of sites offering proxy numbers, and how to enter them into your browser. On a browser like Opera, it takes just a few seconds to set up and copy and paste a proxy in. I don't use proxies here in Thailand but other places I visit they ban newspapers and the bbc so it is easy to get round, sometimes have to try a few before I get a good connection though.

havnt looked at any of the posted links mrmike, u dont need any specialist sortware tho. All a proxy does is forward your packets from a 3rd party computer to the destination so any blocks to certain websites are circumvented..

try going 2 internet options ->connections->(select the connection u are using)->settings->proxy server->(check use proxy)

Address: 64.110.74.244 port: 8080

this post came from spain apparently, I am actually in the UK :o

My wife and I also maintain a house in Sydney which has a small 5 node LAN always running, static ip, DSL, blah blah etc...

If I can't access a site in LOS, then I simply "Remote Desktop" to one of the windows machines on the Sydney network and use that session.

So if you have a windows box overseas that you can access on a fast network, then this is also an option.

Maybe the techies will back this up,but don't go to your personal sites such as banking, while using a proxy.

so there may be some spy action on those proxy:s?

could one use 2 browser....lets say Eudora for banking (without a proxy)...and explorer with a proxy for the rest or cant one split it like that?? :o

Yes you can use as many browsers as you like, although most Banking sites require Internet Explorer be used , they say for security reasons !!!

For general browsing get a copy of either Firefox or Opera

Probably not a good idea to use a proxy when visiting a secure site unless you do a whois to find out who actually owns the proxy server. Most proxies are college's, medium and large companies, ngo's or government departments.

There is no telling how long a proxy will work for, sometimes hours sometimes months. Some of the bigger web pages are updated regularly some weekly some occasionally. The better ones give lists according to speed, country or whether they are anonymous or not.

Have fun...

Nothing 2 be very concerned about, all paswords/data will be sent using SSL 128bit encryption, its only ever been broken a few times afaik and certainly not by the sort of people that would want to steal bank details..

I would say you should be much more carefull about trojans keylogging on yer home computer, and just simple keyloggers on public computers, as when you type the password into the computer its not encrypted at all!

what I mean by using 2 browser is if one can get the 2 browsers to operate at t he same time but with different connections....proxy for one and the normal connection for the other one...?

next question would be which browser to use beside the explorer,,,,firebox or eudora

1. Yes you can run two or more browsers at once, and each one has the choice of running through a proxy or not, and yes you can use a different proxy for each browser. In Opera you have the additional option of being able to specify certain sites which you don't want a proxy for.

Eudora isn't a web browser, it's an email program like Outlook. The main web browsers are:

Internet Explorer

Netscape

Opera

Firefox (mozilla)

There are others but these are the four main ones for windows based machines. The full version of Opera isn't free (although there is a free version with ads), Firefox is free and can be downloaded from:

http://www.mozilla.org/
