Love & Love?

Featured Replies

What's the difference between "kwaam rak" and "sa-nek"? Online dictionary explains both as love but are they of different types of love?

Thanks

i dnt know "sa-nek"

i dnt know "sa-nek"

Lexitron: เสน่ห์ [N] charm; fascination; enchantment; spell

Royal Institute Dictionary: "ลักษณะที่ชวนให้รัก, เครื่องที่ทำให้คนอื่นรัก."

"characteristics which induce someone to fall in love (with you); techniques which make some one else love (you)."

thank you very much!

in other words it's seduction? :o

Probably the simplest word for what the person who is loved possesses is charm. มีเสน่ห์ 'has charm/is charming', so is loved by others.

You were actually right in the original meaning of the word เสน่ห์ is one of the words for Love in Sanskrit - स्निह 'saniha'. In Thai you hear it used a lot in the sense that we use 'animal magnetism / attraction' in English. Someone who has เสน่ห์ is someone when they walk into a room, people just want to be around them.

Aside from 'charming' and 'animal magnetism / attraction', it could be colloquially translated as 'spunk', 'a certan Je Ne Sais Quois', even Mojo. In any case, on the scale of things, it ranks right up there when it comes to positive compliments that you can pay to someone.

คนนี้มีเสน่ห์แรง - 'this person's charm is potent' (loosely translated)

หน้าตาไม่ค่อยดี แต่มีเสน่ห์ - 'Not that good looking, but has a certain irresistable je ne sais quois' (even more loosely translated)

Or in the opposite direction, supposing a guy was hitting on a girl and she dissed him, his friends might say

เสน่ห์ไปไม่ถึง
