While I agree that Western civilization is on a knives edge (mainly due to corruption, greed and poor levels of leadership) the end of an era is merely the start of a new one which isn't seamless, the collapse of the British empire and Pax Britannia lasted decades as did that of the Roman empire. The dark ages are only referred to as such because there was little to no written record keeping, trade and works of art still existed. When Roman governance gradually declined and the troops left Britain the Brits left the towns and reverted back to their old ways of living, the Romano-British civilization was superficial at best. America was a good idea which got out of hand, as Oscar Wilde said, "Of course many countries had discovered America before Columbus but they kept quiet about it", further he remarked, "It's the only country that evolved from barbarity to decadence without an interval of civilization". Europe has always viewed America with amused skepticism, it isn't stable, sometimes it shows awe inspiring greatness and then sinks back to the antics of a school yard, like now. It isn't the end of all things, it just complicates matters, a harbinger of a new direction. -

I do not think that there is any dispute that the UK State Pension or Private Pensions are potentially taxable in Thailand. The circles that you move in, and the area that you live will largely dictate the people that you meet and come across. Therefore I wont come across many / any that are living solely on a State Pension. Probably a different story in towns and Cities. Therefore peoples experiences can, and do, differ. Another thought also occurred as I was typing. It is perfectly plausible that some of those Private Pensions people that you meet / know, might actually be on a Government Pension and simply refer to it as a Private Pension. Of course, the noise around the topic of the thread will now have people nailing down their type of pension, since it hit the headlines just over a year ago. I think I can stand by what I said previously. The biggest cohort I knew when I first came to Thailand were O & G workers, predominantly in the late 30's to mid 50's age group. When I retired fully, the small circle of expats that I currently know are mostly Government Pension holders. Some will also be Private Pension holders. Ex Police / Ex Military / an ex fireman and a couple of others. These are people that I know and meet up with regularly, usually on a golf course or a restaurant Not in the habit of grilling people who I bump into when I visit town or less frequently, the city, on their Pension status. -

But that involved Democrat resignations so different criteria applies? That after being ever so disparaging about what Trump eats and what is made available when traveling with . Hardly a good look to bend the knee before getting the feet under the "Health " desk. Another contender for doubt is Hegseth with reference to sexual impropriety. Trump seems to have a predilection for individuals who emulate his own behaviors. No background checks? It also will be interesting to witness if the military will willingly enforce deportations after Trump has confirmed that intent.
