Searching For "great" Music Duplicate Finder...

Recommended Posts

Most Duplicate File Finders are for Text docs and some will do photos too....

But most don't do a very good job with MP3 files.

Can anyone recommend a GREAT MP3 dup-finder????

Only 'Good', isn't good enough....

I really don't look forward to trying to listen to 8,000 songs to find the real duplicates.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

I use this very small program. It's fast and free. It may not be perfect, ??? but it sure cleaned up my MP3 files.

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/dupfilefinder.html

Duplicate File Finder is a simple, but effective tool to locate duplicate files in one or more selected search paths. It scans the files and compares them based on Byte for Byte Comparison, which ensures 100% accuracy. You can then choose to delete the selected duplicate or original files. The program is multi threaded and performs scans quickly.

Thanks... I'm familiar with this software... but it's just a general all purpuse utility.

I'm looking for something like this... Phelix... Available HERE

Or here at Download.com

Phelix identifies duplicate and similar-sounding songs by listening to your mp3 files and comparing the audio. Primary use is to free up memory being wasted on duplicates without being limited to data- or name-recognition. Phelix finds identical songs by "listening" to the sounds in the selected folders. Once a folder has been completely sound-catalogued, the user has the option of removing duplicates. By listening to the songs, Phelix also makes a separately compared table of similar-sounding music files. The uses of this near-match function are only limited by the user's imagination. In addition to audio recognition Phelix also matches other properties: tags, paths and data. This matcher has long tradition: is proven, fast, intelligent and with many options

I've tried it before on my old Sony laptop... it had problems, probably more due to my 1Ghtz processor and 512MB RAM... It should work better on my current system (2.66Ghtz, Duo-Core & 3GB RAM), but before I install it and try, I just want to find out what else is out there.. maybe something better I haven't heard about.

I don't know everything,

MediaMonkey (free and paid versions) has the ability to find duplicate audio files based on a file's "digital signature" not just the filename.

Edit: After further research, I think that this feature is only available in the "gold" (paid) edition.

MP3 Organizer Pro.

Free

Compare lists for duplicate songs or check with your database to see if you already have this song. It uses new improved algorithm to recognize similar song names out of file name.

I actually have MediaMonkey "GOLD".

I knew that Monkey can find dups... any Music Jukebox can do that.... But I wasn't aware that it can differentiate between them and let me know which is the better copy. Phelix has that ability.

Now that my computer is running like the "Dream" I bought, rather than the "Nightmare" I received (see my other threads on this topic.. Latest is HERE.

I haven't reloaded Monkee yet... I was checking out Zortam MP3 Suite... but I'll load it and check it out more fully. Why buy something else, if I already own one that can do the job.

But in all honesty, I'm still leary that Monkey can do what I actually want.

Thanks for the suggestion,

CS

PS... I really miss the old (pre-Yahoo purchase) MusicMatch... The best JukeBox EVER... until Yahoo butchered and then killed it.

Thanks, but this one looks like that it only compares ID tags.. not as sophisticated a comparison as I want.

BUT... I will check it out... maybe can I use it to keep me from downloading another version of a song that I already have.

This is from the FAQ you linked to:

Why doesn't CloneSpy detect my "duplicate" images/songs?

Please be aware that images might look the same although the files are different. If you want to find "similar" images, you need an other program. Maybe one of these might help:

d'peg: http://www.somewareonthe.net

Doublepics: http://www.doublepics.de

The same holds for audio files. For example, two Mp3s may encode the same song, but the files can be unequal due to inaudible differences.

I'll check out those other 2 programs for Dups in my jpegs...

But I'm still searching for something dedicated to Music MP3s.
