Uninteruptable Power Supply.

Something to rescue the system when the power goes off for a few seconds.

How long are they good for?

What would you pay for a small one to run a PC for an hour or two... the longest we ever lose the power.

Forget about running a computer for two hours unless you want to start spending up big. A mid range UPS will cost about 2000 baht for a local brand or 3,000 for a decent APC model. Depending on how much power your computer needs to run you can expect anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes running on battery. The idea for a UPS in this price range is to be able to run during short term outages and to save your work if it looks like the power will be out for an extended period. Average life for a UPS is supposed to be 3 years on the original battery, I have one APC that is still on the original battery after 6 years and works okay but it's only on a computer used mainly for the internet so nothing mission critical. Replacement batteries everywhere for around 500 baht.
