I was wandering around yesterday looking for photo opportunities and bumped into the local Bank manager and his family who were on a photoshoot.

Well, if there is a recession, nobody told these guys!

He was shooting with a 39 megapixel digital Hasselblad and a fair few lenses, the wife was using a Hasselblad 555ELD complete with digital back and an array of lenses. The 19 year old daughter was confined to the second division with a new Leica M8 complete with Tri-Elmar 16-18-21 lens. :o

I felt a complete pauper armed with my 5D and a couple of pieces of Canon glass! :D

What were they shooting anyway?

I'd imagine they're more into expensive cameras than photography. Same as how many hi-so Thais patronize expensive European brand watches and cars (you are what you have in Thailand, things you wear and carry defines who you are). One of my Thai brother-in-law who works in Chonburi stays in a small, dreadful maid-room like room when he comes to his family home in Bangkok, shabbier than my college dormitory room. But he drives an Audi A6 and wears Rolex.

Or maybe he was making good income receiving undertable for approving lots of bad loans. :o

Or maybe they're serious photographers with serious faith in expensive equipment.

They were shooting this image (attached)

I think they were serious photographers and to be honest it must be great not battling with the family every time you want to go on a shoot (instead of a day in Tesco's)! :D

Nice image. But I'd just take my 5D and leave Hasselblad home if I knew I was on a shootout just to shoot that. :o

Were they using tripod when shooting with Hasselblad? I can't imagine anyone not using tripod with medium and large format cameras, not so much because it's heavy but motion blur with those cameras are far more visible than with SLR, not to mention its large mirror motion vibration. If they can take the hassle of using a heavy camera with heavy tripod chances are they're serious photographer (I try to avoid tripod for all I can and rely on technology like "image stabilizer" :D ).

BTW I heard Hasselblad HD-1 costs 1.5 million Baht in Thailand. Not sure if that price includes lens.

HD-3 39 kit is about 900k - Hasselblad have however recently announced "up to 40% discounts" so we'll have to wait and see eh? :D

p.s. I shot the image HANDHELD with a 70-200 L NON stabilised! :D

I'm owner of H3II 39 and always trying to find people with same camera just to exchange info and learn new tricks about Hasselblad software.

Is it any possibility that I can meet with this H3D owner?

You've mentioned that you bumped into him on photoshoot. Is it some sort of photo club photoshoot? If it is, can you provide more details

Hi Kim

I didn't exchange names/phone numbers but if I see him again I'll pass on your contact.

There are a few forums you can research on the 'net about Hasselblad to help you with your other point
