First off, I'm new here. Pleased to meet you all (:o).

Okay so here my problem. A long time ago my mum and dad got married, dad was a Canadian, mum was Thai. I was given a very nice Thai name by my mum which I do like very much. Then mum and dad got divorced when I was about a year old. I only saw mum occasionally and then lost all contact with her since the age of ten. I don't know where she is or even if she is still in Canada. Either way I grew up with no knowledge of the Thai language and only vague knowledge of the culture.

Now I've gotten much older and circumstances change. The name my mum gave me was very lovely for a sweet little girl (Yanee, she told me it means something like "young girl" though I'm not entirely sure on the English translation) But it turns out I'm actualy not a girl. As for the history behind that well its a long story, lets just say I had a very odd birth defect that has been giving me problems for many years. Either way I talked to my dad and he already had a different male middle name lined up for me so changing the rest of my name isn't difficult. It's just a first name that is giving me problems.

At first I thought maybe I'd go for a Chinese name, as my knowledge of Chinese is better and "Yanee" can also be a Chinese name as well (雅妮) romanization is Ya3-Ni1, meaning is "Elegant and Girl" so for a while I used the Chinese name Li4-Xiong2 (勵雄) which I thought was a nice masculine equivelent meaning something like "To Strive and Hero or Masculine" it was also nice because I shortened it to "Li" or "Lee" because native English speakers often have problems with eastern names.

After about a year of using this name though I realised I want it to be Thai. My given name is one of the few links I have back to my mum but I can't use the one she gave me anymore. I want some way of showing that I have some Thai blood and am quite proud of my heritage on both ends and I also don't think it would be fair if my name only linked back to my dad's people.

Ideally my mum would pick my name for me but as that's physically impossible I will have to be satisfied with a name that may come close. I know she named my elder half-brother "Kamel" (not sure on the exact romanization, I haven't seen him in many years either). People around here do know me as Lee as well, so it would be nice if it had that sound somewhere, if possible, I'm more concerned with the meaning however because that's the most important to me. So something relating to heroics or courage is prefered, but isn't nessesary.

If it helps, I was born on a Saturday. I know knowing that helps for choosing auspicious names.

So I guess my question is "If you had a baby boy who was born on a Saturday; and you wanted to pick a Thai name, what would you name him?"

ANY suggestions, even book titles (preferably at least partially in English, though Japanese would be just as good, and I am desperate enough to get a Thai dictionary and alphabet chart) would be vastly appreciated.

Thank you for reading this!

Well, born in Saturday.... I guess you may have your name as "Sathit" สาธิต

which means 'knowledge'

In proper Thai way, baby-boy born in Sat, his name should begin with 'S'.
