Sondhi was one of the victims ...

Sondhi a victim ? :o Do you know who Sondhi is? He is a crook of the worst kind.

When people will realize? It's true, there is one person who's responsible for all the evil things the PAD is talking about, but this man is standing on their stage, this man is Sondhi !

Dacour mon ami !!

(BTW my sympathies if animatic is your ' cheri ' . Wait till I tell Tina Turner about it !! )

I used 'cher' sarcasticly, because he he has been gossiping like an old fishwife,

say what you hear and repeat it again.

Regardless of what else he may or may not have done in business or otherwise,

Sondhi none the less is a victim of Thaksin's attempt 's to stiffle dissenting voices.

Simple news stories over SEVERAL years made that plain.

Any simple minded person can understand that by just reading.

This also included attempts at greater internet control.

He was one of the MAIN ones attacked with multiple, billion baht lawsuits.

Whether or not he actually crossed the line in his words is another issue,

But still a side issue to Thaksin's attack with lawyers and financially bleed opponents style.

If Thaksin couldn't stand the heat he sued. When Sondhi got sued,

he DIDN'T shut up as expected he hit back, and it hurt.

So THERE is the crux of this current mess.

Thaksin whacked a snake that WILL bite back, not slither for cover.

Not the fastest acting poison, but it DOES have a some strength.

Thaksin also tried to censor as much as he could control.

Hence internet attacks and blocking.

His current puppet crew is attempting the same thing.

Disinformation where thay can't control it and blocking where they can.

And do it under cover of 'protecting HM'.

I see that one element of democracy is "...freedom of political expression, freedom of speech and freedom of the press are essential..."

It is not only an element of democracy, it is essential. Democracy, flawed as it is, cannot function without these. The basic reason Thailand cannot have a democracy, never had and in the foreseeable future won't have, no matter who is in power. It's simply the 'face' of democracy.

Well, at least we're agreed on something then......Sondhi is a snake.

In all seriousness though, although I agree that Sondhi is the brains behind much of the PADS success, in the long run I think he will become something of a liability both to the PAD and the democrats. His unwavering hatred of Taksin doesn't hold out much hope for compromise or dialogue. In such a situation, the probability that there will be more useless violence seems very high.

:o totally agree

prolly only when all these geriatric farang, PAD aficionados (who have NO stake in this country, and who delude themselves that they are of any value to the muban they temporarily live in) realise that now the biggest threat to their visa is not the TRT party and any of its spin offs but a new administration headed by Sondhi's cohorts. Then watch them turn against PAD with the same vitriol they attack Thaksin.

money well spent?? to block sites for 3 minutes???

also, nevermind due process?? no need... just let the police act on their own... afterall, they are trustworthy, right???

Illegal websites face rapid closure

Law change could avert need for court order

Websites deemed offensive to the monarchy could be quickly closed down, without waiting for a court order, under proposed changes to the law. The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Ministry will propose changes to the Computer Crime Act to speed up the process for closing offensive websites. The changes would be forwarded to Parliament before the session ends next month, ICT Minister Mun Patanotai said after meeting Interior, Budget Bureau, National Security Council, National Intelligence Agency, TOT Plc and CAT Telecom officials to discuss ways to tackle illegal websites. The minister said a "significant" change would empower authorities to close websites more speedily, without having to first seek court approval. He expected the amendments could be submitted to Cabinet in the next two weeks and then to Parliament for debate. A meeting would be held next Wednesday with the National Telecommunication Commission, in a bid to get the cooperation of about 120 internet service providers to help detect such websites. The ICTs own inquiries showed about 80% of websites which insulted the monarchy were hosted in foreign countries. The ICT had taken action against 40-50 websites, with mixed success. After being blocked, a new website could appear in as little as three minutes, said Mun. The ICT minister also said the ministry would consider spending up to 500 million baht on tools to block access to websites

How can a decision be made when the details of the offense can't be repeated or discussed?

That would pretty much knock any appeal on the head as you couldn't describe the issues that led to the law being broken.

Is it only me or does anyone else see the inevitable Catch 22 here?

Very true. It would take some pretty amazing "legalese" to be able to discuss a subject that is to all intents or purposes unspeakable.

The long run will take care of itself I suspect.

His unwavering hatred of Thaksin is well earned.

I think he saw the devil clearly before many and acted on it.

This says nothing about his motivations or past, just an observation.

I don't see any vacilation on Thaksin's part either.

I seriously doubt Sondhi will go away till Thaksin is neutered well and properly.

Which should include his PR shills and web attacks on dissenting speakers also.

There is very much a war for hearts and minds on the web,

and that goes for the world stage not just local consumption.

This good letter in the BP about this subject.

Corruption at ministry

As reported in the Bangkok Post of Oct 29, the ICT Ministry will spend 500 million baht to block 1,000 websites _ that is 500,000 baht per website that is deemed inappropriate to the monarchy.

As an IT specialist with over 20 years' experience, I can honestly say that this is nothing more than blatant corruption. And to use the pretext of protecting and maintaining the image and sanctity of your most revered monarchy is nothing more than corruption of the lowest level.

Nearly every country currently has the infrastructure that could implement these changes for little or no cost at all. Simply using your current systems wisely and professionally would achieve the same result.

Each and every official who has signed up on this ridiculous idea should be investigated for unmitigated fraud.

What investigate a PPP government Minister for FRAUD...

Who could imagine such a thing!!!

$500 of SOFTWARE is enough to block ANY site down chain if used properly.

So people trying to paint PAD as fascists, well...the [moral] fascists are already in power.

the ones painting PAD as fascists, or at least anti-democratic, are... PAD.

And nice to see that they highlight a crime no-one can say 'no' to, to hide their agenda.

Much like they use child porn to excuse any filtering added in Europe (and already stepped away from only going after).

but they aren't the only ones. no "good guys" in this movie.

Pardon my French but <deleted>, I went to this article to read about the new censorship measures being put in place and instead I have to wade through another pile of drivel about PAD and PPP. The information I found relevant could have taken a minute to read instead of 15 (or so...figurative speaking) Any of us who read this forum on a regular basis are aware of respective peoples political opinions (and they are entitled to them but there will never be a winner, just as you can argue/debate about which car is best) by now and tired of going through the same old retoric and re copied posts to gleam the information we came here to read about. Why don't you guys just start a thread titled "slanging match over PAD and PPP" and you can go for it to your hearts content.

This issue is not just about Thailand and we (free thinkers) know it's not about the king, he is the only one holding this country together (IMHO) and to take the back foot as he has and not step in to stop these people and let his country grow up makes him a bigger man than me.

I disagree with censorship full stop (with the exception of minors and thats a family issue) and I have read about it being done in Australia under a similar guise. So how do we the "free thinking" of this world circumnavigate the oppressors. Proxy servers can be infiltrated too, ask the kid who got hold of Palins email address in the states. It is not the information that is dangerous but what you choose to do with it.

Strike a blow for freedom and give us some real info, or is that censorable too? :o

It's funny how every topic, no matter what the starting subject is about, inevitably drifts to Thaksin, PAD, PPP...

Some of you guys are really obsessed :o

Tod, in this case there is a huge political element in this new censorship drive.

So sadly and inevitably the perpetrators get discussed, and their reasons for acting.

Now. I'm getting a bit ticked off with your dramaqueenery Parrot. You Just Can't Keep Posting like this, without Backing Up Your Statements as if they were fact, Parrot.

Let's start with the first one. Quote: He is a crook of the worst kind: Why? elucidate.

... for all the 'evil' things (bit strong Parrot?) the PAD is talking about. Unquote: What 'evil things'? elucidate.

An' please refrain from respondin' in French Parrot. Sounds a tad pretentious, Parrot :D (because I know you're not French Parrot). :D

Who cares who is doing it, they are doing it all over the world, Australia, New Zealand, England, America, China to name a few what is important is what can we do about it. It is obvious no one agrees with it, or do they. Or are all these countries being manipulated by the PAD, PPP or Thaksin for their own political purposes too. Keep the politics on the appropriate forum. We get the message they are all corrupt.

Sooner or later it will happen in this country too no matter who is in power it already does to a degree !

Well said Tod :o

Warning for ISPs hosting illegal sites

The ICT Ministry says it will revoke the licences of internet service providers (ISPs) who fail to take appropriate action against clients who publish lese majeste content. ICT Minister Mun Patanotai yesterday met ISP bosses and alerted the National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) about the proposed tightened measures. The regulation is being drafted and should come into effect later this month, he said. If ISPs fail to shut down sites which contain lese majeste content after receiving three notices from the ministry, the NTC would be asked to revoke their licences immediately. Mun added that in particularly serious cases, the ministry would not need to issue three warnings before ordering the website to be closed. Foreign-based websites offensive to the monarchy may be hard to close, but the ministry could block access to them from within Thailand, he added. The ISPs were assured that they ran no risk of being sued for implementing the restrictions, Mun said. He explained that the amendment to the computer crime law the ministry and the NTC are working on will provide wider legal protection for the authorities in their attempts to rein in

Doubt they' d be Thais more likely be, geriatric PAD aficionado farang, who live in fear should Taks come back to void their visa once for all

So funny, OK no problem lets revoke all foreigners visa. Since the majority of foreigners here hold businesses which provide jobs to Thai nationals I dont have a personnal problem to fire them all and give my money to a more welcoming country if this is the case... We wont surely beg you to stay here, is this a joke?

Thailand firewall to block 'offensive' websites

ICT Minister Mun Patanotai said exactly 86% of those websites are from foreign countries

so then 14% comes from within, wonder who the miscreants are. Doubt they' d be Thais more likely be, geriatric PAD aficionado farang, who live in fear should Taks come back to void their visa once for all

It's ok if they spend 500 Million Baht for imaginary firewalls... afterall, the Treasury is flush with money, most of it bursting from the revenue from the 45 million tourists putting One and Half Trillion Baht into the system...

PPP airs economic platform

Party-list candidate Mingkwan Saengsuwan unveiled a package of economic platforms yesterday mapped out by his People Power Party (PPP) and painted a glowing picture of an economy driven by populist policies.

In the special mix of enhanced policies, it will strive to achieve a four-fold increase in revenue from tourism, while aiming to cut costs of running populist schemes by fourfold.

In regard to the roadmap to boost revenues, it pins hopes on increasing tourist arrivals to finance mega projects instead of raising taxes.

Based on the capacity of Suvarnabhumi Airport, tourist arrivals should rise from 11 million per year to 45 million with a projected annual revenue of 1.5 Trillion Baht to fill government coffers.

It could also be that you re-connected and came up on a different subnet. In the past I have had experiences with some sites being unreachable from some IP-ranges, but a re-connect where I would end up on another d-net or even c-net would make them available again. Same with speed-throttling. Seems like things are not handled uniformly nor globally, in a way they should at the ISPs...

total resets and weather consider ations the ful boat.

And NO other instance of this has happened.

I know this system quite well after a year, and this was totally unsual.

No I am convinced this was deliberate.
