mustafa
I got it done at Thai International (opposite Tesco), think it was 1000 baht. Huge chunks came out, I couldn't believe how big they were. Apparently buildup of wax is more common in countries like Thailand where we sweat alot.

Do you have dry, flaky earwax or the gooey, stinky type? The answer is partly in your heritage. A new study reveals that the gene responsible for the drier type originated in an ancient northeastern Asian population. Today, 80 to 95 percent of East Asians have dry earwax, whereas the wet variety is abundant in people of African and European ancestry (97 to 100 percent). SamuiRes
Does anyone know of a doctors or hospital on Samui that offers ear cleaning by syringe ( where they clean your ears out with a jet wash )Thanks Having you rears syringed can be very dangerous unless done by a ENT Specialist. When I was young my local GP did this and was not aware of a hole in the ear drum and consequently forced water into the inner ear. This was the start of my life long ear problems which resulted in three operations. I have my ears checked on a regular basis, at Bumrumgrad in Bangkok if I am there and by the only real ENT specialist I know on the island, Dr Ning in Nathon. Both use air suction and would not dream of using a syringe. Dr Ning is a lovely lady doctor who speaks good English and you can find her surgery on the left hand side of the one way road through Nathon about fifty metres before it turns the corner back towards the sea. mattias33
Water in the inner ear is not a game. I myself spent a week in a hospital this summer due to that problem. Everything was spinning around like crazy. In the begining i could not even have my eyes open or move my head the slightest without throwing up. Anybody cleaning my ears need the "vaccum-equipment". The one that "suck". Flushing water with high pressure in the ears "jetcleaning" is not even aloud in my country anymore, due to sensitive ears drum blowing in the cleaning-process. I don´t know if the thread (or possibly even me?) is confusing the different methods up, but dont go "flushing" with water, it´s dangerous and i suspect the Thais do it even more uncontrolled than they ever did in my part of the world. Samuijens, the banrak lady, did the "suck" as i understand it? Not the "flush" the "suck" !!! Right??

longtom
hopi ear candles are safer and far cheaper What are those? And can I get them on samui?
BusyBee123
http://www.lynnehancher.co.uk/aaahop.htm this is as good an explanation as i can see. Personally I have had it done in the uk for £10 and it's a nice experience as well as effective. No idea if anyone does it on samui but i would imagine most spa places do as they do in the uk, no real idea though.
OnTheSnap
The high-pressure that's built up by the fluid syringe can be dangerous- it will cost more, but there's an ear doctor at BKK/Samui that uses a proper suction syringe that is much less invasive and more thorough. Sounds like I have to satisfy my masochistic tendencies otherwise. Thanks for the info anyway, maybe I'll ask for those candles at my next nose-hair removal session .
