Would guess its the same definition as everywhere else....taking something that doesn't belong to you... :o

It doesn't extend to intellectual property or copyright though...

Thai Law I believe is very much influenced by old German tenets, tried to google for simple definition but failed, joking apart, friend in trouble basics appreciated.

Depends really on what sort of theft it is. The very basic case of theft here is in the Criminal Code. Title XII.

Section 334. Whoever, dishonestly is taking away the thing of another person or which the other person is co-owner to be said to commit the theft, shall be imprisoned not out of three years and fined not out of six thousand baht.

After that it all depends on where, how and what the property was.
